Got talking to several people who were at the "Stars in their Eyes" competition all were saying that the whole thing seemed unfair....

As far as i recall, the original TV show was based on firstly how the contestant dressed / looked and secondly how that sang, compared to the real star....

One contestant, who did will Young apparently looked just like Will and sang just like him, but didn't get in the top 3....

If there are any of the judges on here, would like to hear your comments....

I could not agree with you more about Will Young contestant. He was very very good. However, did you all know and I`ve been told by a good source that he was/is professional. Therefore, he had a head start.

The rules should have been set out from the outset, whether or not pro or semi pros were able to enter, and what criteria the judges were looking for, physical appearance, likeness of the voice to the original, etc

I didn't have the oportunity to attend this event, so can I just clarify what this is about?

Was this a fun event intended to raise money for charity? Did the performers have an enjoyable time and were any of the participants permanently scarred with disappointment over their failure to win?

Just checking?

hI Harold yes the event was for charity for the 112 fund. I hope they raised thousands for them as well over 400 were there. The event was 5tl entrance so times 400 that would give them a lot of money.xx

Well said Harold, surely people have better things to get het up about, I bet there won't be a queue of people offering to judge the * fun* day next year, that is if people are willing to organise it again, hope people will be happy if the charities miss out through this.

good evening ladies and gentlemen, i am the guy who sang will young I do not hide behind a nickname , my first names are john lee , but you know all know me as lee . I am not a proffessional entertainer my first experience of singing live was here in TRNC approx 18 mths ago. I own and run one of the ten most successful indian restaurants in the united kingdom. My living is and has never been through entertaining so please note I AM NOT A PROFFESSIONAL ENTERTAINER. I could not be one because I do not have a work permit and I would not take the p*ss out of the country that I have chosen to live in . thank you so much to Peter , Sandra and Tony for an excellent show . In my eyes Duffy was the best ,f or people to say I should have been joint first is a compliment. Thank you also to the many . many ladies who made me feel so special on the night but my heart goes out to Sara P who looked absolutely identical and sounded identical to Doris Day . she made so much effort

May I take this opportunity of correcting a rumour that is doing the rounds.

Yes, the winner is a member of ChorusLambousa, but none of the judges has, or has had, any relationship whatsoever with ChorusLambousa. mess 5 sounds like duffy had the head start lol

Lilli the event was for charity and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong....600tl for charity.

Approx 400 x 5 = 2000 tl

An absolute fortune spent on alcohol...

Surely simena donated some of their taking to the charity...

oh yes and the raffle tickets..and the charity got 600 lira...what a joke!!

Hi Guys,

Just to clarify, none of the judges had a connection with the contestants that WAS very intentional. Secondly none were professional just extremely talented. The judging was on five catergories each one out of 10 points

look a like, sound a like, star quality, stage presence and effort.

The judging was extremely close as was last year.

Will, Doris, Duffy, Bjork, shirley Norman etc etc were all brilliant . every individual had picked a different winner so its obvious there will be controversy.

Like we said before if it was left to the audience it would also be unfair as some contestants had many friends/family there to vote for them and many others did not see all the acts.

Thanks again to every one who helped and all the magnificent contestants

Re message 5 the whsitler, you have stated that I am a Pro. Thankyou for the compliment. defenition of pro. entartainer is a person deemed to earn their living from it, semi pro. would be deemed as part time. I suggest that you have been asked to post that message, last years contest had at least 5 semi pro. entertainers. I have a full white Elvis suit, I could have gone on as Elvis,( would have been a bit hot) but I thought that would be out of order, I have been paid twice very little money, just enough to cover my diesel, I have worn it may be 6 times, to turn up for friends suprise parties, etc. I sing at riverside for a few nights in summer none of these have I done for profit, My Elvis suit alone cost £600, my equipment has cost me probably £4,000. I would need to do a lot of work to cover that and make a profit. So get your facts right, and have the bottle to identify yourself, if I was computor literate my photo would be on here, I have nothing to hide

Again just to clarify.

Firstly there were not 400 paying people maybe 400 there but hey who knows how they got in.

Club Simena pulled out all the extra stops pulling in extra staff to cope, keeping prices low and feeding the hoards. Only the raffle was for charity which was a surprise for 112 and only donations from kind people and businesses enabled this to happen.

Last message on the subject. Organise one yourself and see the outcome.

thanks again for all the support

Sags

To all of the petty, mean minded, spiteful people who have slagged off this event I hope you feel better for all your disgusting comments and allegations, you have really shown yourselves up for the troublemakers you are, pathetic in my opinion.

To everyone who made the effort to put on this charity event, in whatever capacity, very well done, without people like you it would be a sad place to live, congratulations to you all.

As one of the judges, I would just like to say that it is impossible to please all the people all the time. Each judge marked each contestant individually under the categories already explained and then the scores were added up. This was done as we went along so that there was no going back and altering the scores at the end. It was surprising how closely the marking from the four judges tied up with each other and we all tried to be as fair as possible because we had no connection or previous knowledge of any of the contestants. There were very few marks difference between the 'top' contestants but there were only three places so obviously some people are going to be disappointed but that's life. It was organised for people to enjoy not fall out over and at the end of the day it is all down to opinions and as my old gran used to say 'Opinions are like bottoms, everybody has one and some of them are not very nice!'

Johnny Lee. Re message 21. I have read it and it appears you are in `panic` mode. Take time and read my post again. I said

"However, did you all know and I`ve been told by a good source that he was/is professional. Therefore, he had a head start. "

I was told you were professional by another professional.

It now makes me wonder why someone who only gets up on karaoke to sing would go to the expense of buying a full Elvis suit and paying 4,000 gbp for equipment.

Like Parky says "Are you the same guy that performed at Bar 11 last year"

As for the professionals last year, I understand that they were not judged.

Of interest, I think the judges decision was spot on

Again Pete and Sandra thanks so much for a wonderful day and the effort you must have put into it. It is sad that it has turned out to be World War 3.

why would I be in panic mode, ? what a strange comment . I appeared at bar 11 few times, but as i pointed out not for profit, yes i read your post and you said you had been told, well dont you think you should check your facts before you put them into print, please read again the definition of music pro. I did not say that i only get up on Karaoke to sing.in fact i never mentioned karaoke. some people pay £600 for a pair of shoes, some people spend 4 grand on golf clubs, i love music its my hobby, iam also into Hi Fi sound and have been all my life, and when i do somthing I try to do it right My friend has a Aston Martin but he,s not a pro racing driver, So like I said before, have the bottle to identify your self and stop hiding behind a nickname. I have no gripes with anyone . but when some fool puts somthing into print stating totally untrue facts about me then i will answer it, but the difference is I will look you square in the eyes face to face and answer it,

Is that an old Turkish saying or an English one?

Forgot to reveal for the whistler, my wife paid for Johhnie hawkins to make me CD for my birthday, I got 10 copies, it wasnt cheap. gave them away to my friends, (they are no longer my friends after playing it) gave one to my son he said he might play it one day when h,es p*****d, the others are hanging up in car windscreens to distract birds, actually I did give 2 or 3 to friends here and they said they were good, ( but they may have hearing problems) So I have just realised what this makes me , wait for it an International, proffesional, Recording Artist. Not bad hey, and I thought was just an ordinary bloke in TRNC. who enjoyed singing
