Been offered a Mitsubishi Home use Lossnay Ventilator unit (VL-100U-E), is it worthwhile bringing it over to use in my villa ? Only seems to cool/heat a few degrees but for very little power usage. Has anyone any comments on this unit ?

I have commented on this on the other BB where you asked the same question. I thought my reply was quite detailed.

Vaughan, thanks for your reply on your "other" BB. Your reply was very brief, showing two links to the Mitsubishi website, with little personal input, which I had already researched. Never be afraid to say you're not sure or don't know, no-one knows everything about everything, no matter how much an "expert" they may "claim" to be. I didn't realise you posted as richarda and you were the "Administrator" of the "other" BB. Are you the only person "allowed" to post replies to technical questions ? Or could it be a case of "knowledge is power" ? Hope you are less curt and more polite with your replies to any questions coming from any of your customers.

Hi sunluvva, I have checked back and found that my reply to you was not posted for some reason. It may be that having clicked on "send" nothing happened. I apologise for coming across curtly as I did in fact go into some great detail. My conclusion was that you were probably better-off fitting it to your home in the UK where you are unlikely to use air conditioning in your home. If you still require information on these recuperators please fell free to ask.

Hi sunluvva, These type of ventilators are known as heat recuperators, the idea being that incoming fresh air is passed through a heat exchanger without coming into physical contact with the outgoing extracted air. In winter the cold incoming air is warmed by the outgoing extracted air and in summer the hot incoming air is cooled by the outgoing air, assuming it has been cooled, by a/c for example. These units are particularly suitable for modern homes with high insulation afforded by double glazing and cavity insulation, which require ventilation to remove stale air without major heat/cooling loss. As this does not really describe Cypriot construction, I concluded that you would get more benefit from this device in the UK where it fits in with some of the needs of Part F of the building regs. I hope the above provides you with sufficient information to come to a decision.
