If he has a legal company and provides a good service and is breaking no laws I don't have a problem with this.

As I mentioned in a previous post Yorgozlu do you have a problem with British people in general and no I am not trying to be smart or sarcastic I am really interested. If so perhaps we could talk about it and the other problem I have is in understanding why you are on this forum if you do in fact have a problem with British people or any foreigners for that matter. I take it you are a Turkish Cypriot .

Actually might be both refreshing and interesting to hear the views of a Turkish man who having spent 23 years in the UK, now lives in NC. Certainly give a different perspective. We might learn a lot.

Will always be a opening for illegal work here while locals constantly rippoff, overcharge and produce shoddy work, as often said, Bangladesh service for Swedish prices, either buck your ideas up or swim in the sea of crap you've swam in for years. Your out of touch, out on price and been bailed out for to long to be in the real world. The dream is to be of European quality, the reality is a bunch of racist self centered corrupt protectionists telling the world they are hard done by, get a grip, wake up before the Greeks have you licking their boots again.

DN,I like to be open minded and say it how it is,no going round the bushes, like your comments. No I dont have a problem with anyone working,no I dont work, and no I'm not after nobodys work.Wright or wrong was the question!!!As far as "bangaldesh service for swedish prices"are concerned ,YOU CAN ALWAYS PACK YOUR BAGS AND BUGGER OFF.

Yorgozlu. Why not just report him?

Then if nothing is done, let the papers know that the authorities do not care who works illegally.

Many people have told me that the "Charlies" (UK Cypriots) are regarded by the local TC's as traitors/cowards.

Have you found this to be true, and why? (Just curious).

Best regards

Dear pinkchilli,I wouldnt worry about "charlies"couse they know what it takes to earn the living, its mainly the local ones that see us as pound notes. As for REPORTING" him,WHY GIVE HIM JOB in the first place. If I employed an illegal person in uk I was facing £5000 fine,POINT?

I understand how you feel.

But I remember years ago in the UK, the then Prime Minister was asked "do you get a receipt from your window cleaner?"

The PM laughed and gave the impression that you cannot stop the black economy.

Also, if you wanted something simple like a bit of gardening done (only weeding) would you pay 8TL per hour cash in hand, or 20TL through a registered company?

I do not work and I would never take the risk of being deported. The TC's are our hosts. Too many Brits only want a Little Britain. They moan even now about all the foreigners in the UK, even though they have left.

Do you remember when the Police were "checking" Brit registered cars?

Many Governments understand that there is a black economy, both Brits and TC's work without paying tax, but there is no real mileage in chasing these people. Governments would get bigger rewards for cathching advocats who rake in millions of undeclared fees.

yeh yorgozlu , i can see where you are coming from . But you know , how many times have you called out a tradesman in the uk and he says to you , if you pay cash it will be cheaper , is this not along the same lines ? and why give him the job ? because he is cheaper !! you could say he is working illegally . So we the public should not employ him either ! does that make sense

Simbas, you are missing the point, doing a job on the side every now and then and working completly illegal are two different things, and with your comments you are telling them to curry on.And with all due respect ,if this person was to do it quietly, chances are no one would have noticed, but he is slagging off locals to brits to get their jobs, just because they cant speak english when it should be the other way round"english not speaking TURKISH

Hi Yorgozlu , sorry , perhaps i did not explain myself properly , most definately i do not condone working illegally in any shape or form , it is an insult to all law abiding workers in my opinion . i posed a question " why give him the job " and answered it " because he is cheaper " this is generally speaking , not my sentiments

Yorgozlu..... "No Britvic I'm neither, just making a point about if I can also get this jobs ,but so far no luck.Perhaps because I'm not ENGLISH.I did not come back to my country to work,I came here to enjoy, and enjoying is what I'm doing as well as trying to get some fucts right".

What's your problem? You say you want to "get this jobs but no luck", but also said you didn't return to work. You sound very confused. Do you want to work or not? If you don't like what you see, stop moaning about it on here, get off your backside and report it.

It appears to me that your problem lies with the fact (not fuct) that this person is, (as highlighted by you) .... ENGLISH. For whatever reason (only known to you), that issue alone appears to be the MAIN crux of your difficulty.

yorgozlu i use a tc electrician called 888888888 and he is one of the nicest and proffesional electricians you could

meet. he doesnt speak english but with my pidgeon turkish and knowledge of diy we manage.

He doesnt issue a fatura unless asked so i presume he is doing cash in hand as do all self employed people in the world.

I would not dream of reporting him to the authorities and at the end of the day black economy monies go back into the trnc for shopkeepers petrol stations etc rather then to corrupt authorities.

What should stop in my opinion is the spending of monies into the south i dont blame anyone for shopping south but wish we would support thr trnc economy even if its sometimes dearer or you cant get the goods.

our local shopkeeper is more then willing to try and get on the shelves goods that are requested by ex pats and he does.

ps how do you know the guy in lapta doesnt have a work permit unless you have asked him

dont forget that the people who are doing so called black economy are also providing builders estate agents

advocates with large sums of money for housing etc keeping pool and garden supply companies going plus all the furniture stores etc

it doesnt make it right but with out them trnc economy would be even worse then it is now.

anyway who really loves the tax man!!!

ps before you ask i am retired i do my own pool and my neighbours who has cancer and cant do it

and that it

Post 12:"I came here to enjoy, and enjoying is what I'm doing"...........................??

Yorgulzu, your supersleuth activities seem to be making you very angry, it is not good for your health. Do what you came here to do, enjoy your beautiful country and your delightful ever smiling countrymen. Don't torture yourself with the fucts, you will have no peace.

PS: We occasionally need an electrician but you would have to calm down, don't want you blowing any fuses!

I have frequently been seen doing my neighbours gardens (in UK). I have supplied flag stones, tools and materials and also used them to do their gardens and mend their fences. I have redesigned some of the layouts and laid paths - l live in a bungalow, surrounded by many other bungalows which house the elderly, infirm and disabled - I charge nothing!!!

Don't judge by what you see, it may not be what you think it is. If in doubt - ASK!!!

My observations (not facts) are "spot on" Mr Z, and, are taken from your own postings.

1. Yes, your English is sadly lacking and for someone who has spent 23 years in the UK that is surprising.

2. Reviewing all of your posts, you appear to contradict yourself as to whether you want to work or not? So I would say you were confused.

3. Mess 30 "For all forum members;every job I advertised has been for my friends, and you dont speak their language, sadly", This, coupled with postings in a similar vein such as Mess 10 "YOU CAN ALWAYS PACK YOUR BAGS AND BUGGER OFF" are openly discriminatory, and speak volumes as to your lack of insight in offending this audience who in the main are, as you put it.... "ENGLISH".

I have the measure of people like you Mr Z

taraspring although on the whole turkish cypriots are very friendly and make you welcome we have noticed how discriminatory they are to black people and asian people our builder actually enjoyed riding a guy off the road on his bike with much hooting and guffawing

Cyprusairsoft, and also exhibit the same behaviour to Turkish mainlanders too.

What is that favourite TC's derogatory name for mainlanders??? Black-beard! Karasakal.............

Have witnessed that discrimination also.

Sadly, I would imagine there are a lot of "closet" Mr Z's if the truth was known.

IMO - If it is forbidden on this forum to discuss the legalities of TRNC, then by the same token it should also be forbidden to post blatent racist comments such as those we have had to endure from the likes of Mr Z! It's my view rule 3 should be appropriately amended!

So yorgozlu, you've made enough money out of Britain to enable you to retire at 45 and now you seem to be so anti British it makes one question why the hell you stayed there so long. Shame you didn't make more effort in learning the language better whilst you were there then we might be able to understand at least half of what you are on about.

I've promised nurseawful that I'll be nice today, so I won't go on anymore!

To work illegally is illegal. To do business without issuing proper receipts is illegal. If you have knowledge of ANYONE doing ANYTHING illegal it is up to YOU to ask yourself; "Can I condone this action?" If the answer is YES then you need do nothing. If the answer is NO then it is up to YOU, as the individual, to report your knowledge to the relevent authorities.

When I worked in the TRNC I was doing so legally. Part of my duties was to collect monies from business. In total there were 50 companies I dealt with. 22 NEVER had FATURA's (Invoices) and MAKBUZ (Receipt) issued and I collected personal cheques or cash from them. They knew what they were doing. By no Invoice their bill was 16% cheaper.

I ask myself the question, "Do I condone the actions of these companies?" The answer was YES because they kept me in a job, regardless of the fact I knew they were acting illegally. Therefore I never reported them, even after I left the TRNC.

So yorgozlu....Can you condone this person?

hI yorgozlu....can i just say that you asked,something...have got no where...as sometimes in life this happens.we cant always find the answer to everything...Did you hope in some way, that moving here would be less like living back in the U.K...Well Hay its not even that much cheaper, and yes Taxes do get paid.....and people work for friends,as in the Turkish community too,you help me,and i will help you..etc..etc...

Perhaps you should log off this Thread..and let be no longer a Thread....thats just the way to play at it..sometimes.its just not worth it....

I wish you all the very best in all you do.work wise,or just relaxing....

Spider.X P.S.people do just love to take the P*** .and if you keep watching how the Thread is going.its not worth it.

Mr yorgoslu, remember while you are lambasting the British you are lambasting the same people that turned a blind eye to all the TC students who were working illegally while studying in the UK. if this reason you are complaining is causing you to fail to get work/money then fair enough, otherwise just rummage through your memory banks for the time you spent in the UK, I'm sure you'll find recompense.

If someone cleans a pool for a friend whilst away or does a bit of gardening for them, all well and good, probably gets taken out for a meal, but I think when they develop pool cleaning or gardening as a business in TRNC and do not pay taxes or insurance, I think it is wrong. Some will argue that in UK people go in and claim this and that, but two wrongs do not make a right - I think it is an absolute liberty that there are some living here who are claiming disability in the UK and other subsidies and answer 'well we paid in for it' - no, some of these people who claim are too young to have paid in the amount they are claiming.

Msg 65, if it so much of a bad thing for you go and confront the bloke man to man and tell him exactly what's on your mind, but if the people he is working for want him to work for them, then maybe free trade should be allowed, shouldn't it ? as another poster had said TC's tend to stick together, so does any other country's peole on the planet, why not Brit's then eh ?

Then yorgozlu you know your duty.

I suggest that you visit the Workers Office on the 'High Street' in Girne tomorrow morning and ask to see one of the directors and make your sworn statement.

They will act upon your information (I know a friend of mine was dobbed in), and will make a visit to this person where they will advise him what he needs to do to work legally, or arrest him and deport him, or arrest him and put him in the Central Prison in Lefkosa.

We look forward to your post tomorrow naming this person and taking the credit for removing one illegal worker from the black market.

If you are the honourable Turkish Cypriot that you say you are then you know it is your DUTY to report this man. It is yours, and only your responsibility to see that all CRIMINALS are dealt with by the letter of the law.

Harita, Coachie was responding to this post message 63:" If someone cleans a pool for a friend whilst away or does a bit of gardening for them, all well and good, probably gets taken out for a meal, but I think when they develop pool cleaning or gardening as a business in TRNC and do not pay taxes or insurance, I think it is wrong. My neighbour in NC looks after my pool,House, and garden for no charge, we do however pay in kind with meals and wherever we can help out while their. Where exactly is coachie being wrong?

Britvic,I also have a neighbour that I look after their pool, house and garden for no charge. They used to pay somebody to do it all,but with no knowledge to know what he was doing,so they asked me if I could, so I do it for them(and they are English)So,I dont have a problem with english, nor I have a problem with someone working legaly and doing jobs on the side every now and then(as wrong as it is),but to do it completly illegal and knocking off the locals to get their jobs is my big issue.I know he doesnt have work permit, becausewith permit he can only work for someone.Even a person from turkey need permit and they are turkish, and they mostly work for minimum wage.So why should it be different for any other foreighner.

So, to sum it up:

This British guy slags off TC's to get more work for himself and works without a permit.

It is wrong. If you want, give me his details and I will report him. He is giving the British a very bad name. It should stop.

I think nearly every sane person, regardless of race would agree with you.

Sorry Yorgozlu, once a brit, always a brit??? Why on earth did you spend so long in UK if you have such a poor opinion of us? You are very quick to to try to tar us all with the same brush, I doubt if it was such an issue for you whilst you were making use of the advantages of living in the UK, the NHS service for example. I am married to a Cypriot I work legally. Am I entitled to the same benefits in Cyprus as a tax payer, as you were in the UK as a tax payer?....mmm, I think not. If you have a problem with this guy then have the nerve to go and say it to his face, I would be very suprised if you didnt know a single TC in UK who hadnt done a bit of cash in hand stuff at the expense of the UK tax payer.

cyprusairsoft:dont want to put names but few members on this forum I noticed "inteligent"and perhaps also "educated" have come up with rather silly and stupid comments,is whats redirecting the issue out of its actual point.Thats why my comments been towards that way also.No I dont dislike brits.I have my own opinions towards brits,(like expecting every nation to speak english, even when they live there.)But, this isnt about brits ather then the fact that this guy happens to be one.Had he not been brit, there'd have been no point whatsoever putting this thread on forum.the questin you all need to ask yourselves,"would you have liked it,if I was doing the same thing in uk,in same sircumstances. No he doesnt have a family, yes I've confronted him,but all the while you employ him,he will carry on.

I would seriously suggest that you move to the UK, that way you will get a house, benefit payments, free health care and you will not feel the need to whinge about 'Brits' taking work away from you. Give it a try you might be pleasantly surprised.

we cant help that as a nation, blame the people in government.

Perhaps when every bar/shop/beledeysi/restaurant/taxi stop ripping off British people there will be no need for them to take work from other people. Or perhaps you would prefer it if we all went back to the UK, imagine the restaurants etc without British people in them, how many TC,s do you think would be out of work then. There is a saying in English, you can,t have your cake and eat it too.

yorgozlu.....just a little tip...Why on earth are you letting this Man,and this Thread.and comments made LIVE in your HEAD..RENT free.....thats a little saying when something bugs you,or bothers you too much...Let it go.!! give yourself some peace of mind...Nothing stays in my Head Rent Free,to bother me,life it much to short, and we should live every moment as best we can..and i for one would much rather remain happy, and content, even with (my lot.) if you know whats right, and wrong, and behave as such..thats great...we have to understand not everyone is like this...and we have to respect Live.and let live...each and every living soul,is doing whatever he/she wants, how, and when they like,or want...your not going to change this Man..Time to accept the situation,if your not going to do anything about it.!! and accept the things in life that you cannot change...change is to stop making this Thread so improtant to you every day...enjoy what you have, and what is around you...smile all day,
