Does anyone know if it is possible to check for any speeding fines at the tax office. I recall an initiative to give a discount on the road tax if one did not have any fines. I do not need to renew my road tax but would like to find out if I have any fines outstanding without having to go to the police station.

I understand you just go to front desk on right in Girne Polis Station and ask them to check on computer if there are any outstanding. The tax office checks their computer when you are renewing your vehicle tax for any violations, if they find any, No discount.

The police can tell you how many traffic points you may have against your name. However if you get caught on the speed cameras, you do not get the points recorded automatically. They are recorded once you accept speeding and hence pay the fine or if you are found guilty in court. I have six speeding tickets so far with 25 points each but since I have not admitted anything I have no points against my name (yet). I was not aware that road tax goes up with traffic points. Are you sure about this? It sounds logical but I am not sure.

Ismet, I've just done my car tax and as i understand it, if you have an outstanding traffic fine you pay the

' top line ' price for your tax. If you are fine free you then get a discount.

I got the discount, but must admit to holding my breath while they did the check.
