Hi all

I am looking for some advise regarding sat tv. I have a spare pace digibox i am going to bring over and just wondered if anyone knows if it will work with the 1m dishes to get some english channels. Or do i have to have a particular box to match a satalite service. I dont want a 1.8m dish to get sky and dont want any subscription just a few channels will do as only there 2 or 3 times a year at moment. Bit of news and maybe a film or two.

Hope someone can help

Cheers Tigger

You wont get free view channels on a 1m dish, you'll get a few on a 1.8m but 4.2 is best. Your digibox will work anywhere providing you have a big enough dish. You will need a viewing card paired with the digibox.

What i need to know is will it work to pick up something like hot bird or nilesat or any other with some free channels. I know it will not pick up sky without a big dish but i am really just looking for the cheapest option for the short term, later i will get a bigger dish.

Many Thanks

Tigger

tigger,

Plenty of free English language channels and news programs on Nilesat, and a 1m dish is more than big enough.

I think coffer is referring to SKY...

A standard digital set-top-box is all you need. If it happens to be a SKY box, then you would need a card and PIN code to disable the parental control system, as you would be accessing transmissions via the 'other channels' par of the menu - and even then, to be honest, it's a really 'clunky' way of doing it.

A 'Freesat' or free-to-air satellite receiver, which can be had for unfer 50 quid in the UK is a much better bet - if that's what your pace box is, then you're all set!

The problem with dreamboxes is that you need a computer connected to the box to program the codes in, and an internet connection to find those codes. If you are interested in doing that, then Goldwing (Allen) is the man to ask for information!

Happy viewing,

Keith.

Thanks Keithcaley

Do you have any idea of costs for dish and installation, i dont fully understand about the parental control am i right in thinking i can clear the parental control here with my sky card and pin and then use for nilesat. The box does say sky digibox on it.

Cheers

Dear Tigger

Useless you are going to use the pace digibox for SKY...FORGET it.. Keith's advice is good... buy a satellite recr from Maplin for approx 50GBP and get a 1m dish pointed at nilesat.

tigger,

memory is rapidly fading here, however if I were you, I'd try doing just that in the UK, then disconnect and reconnect the box to the mains WITHOUT THE CARD IN THE SLOT, and see if it allows you to locate and view channels via the 'additional channels' route.

I have a nasty feeling that you do need a card in the slot, else the box won't work, but best try it and see...

If it does work, then you've got a minimum cost solution, and the satisfaction of having made use of a bit of old 'junk' - but as I say, even if it works, it's a really 'clunky' way of operating a digibox!

Zerochlor,

Goldwing posts on here, see thread about KellyBelly.

Have emailed you.

Regards,

Keith.

Dear KC

re msg 10

A SKY digi box WILL work without a SKY card - for the EPG - electronic programming guide to work it MUST find the default transponder that tells it the day date time

As most of us who have experienced power cuts in CY or after storms - we have to "point" the poor old digibox back in the right direction by going into the installer set up menu.

Tiggy I MAY be able to swap your digibox for a recr that WOULD work for nilesat..You really would be wasting your time using a SKY box to receive nilesat.

You have my email addy in my profile
