Whilst walking in the Karsiyaka area today we were passed by a dark Range Rover Reg No SG54 ??? with two gentlmen inside, a few moments later they passed us again. We then met another ex pat who said the occupants were Greek and had been "escorted" from the village on a previous occasion. Just a note of warning that they are about.

Well, SG54 suggests a UK number plate ( Glasgow area) - as GC ones have THREE letters and "TRNC" ones have only two letters ( save taxis and buses ) and aren't up to S ...yet .

Beware those Scots GCs ;)

Something must be very wrong if nobody cannot distinguish between a UK private reg. from a Cyp Turk. Turk and a Greek Cyp. car plate. Have a few spare white sticks if that would help anyone!

'And another three numbers I didn't catch', seems more logical than xxx or ???.

Dear Richard

re msg 10

OMG.. I met my pedant match.. I think "XXX" is the correct syntax to denote digits / letters that can't be remembered or shown... Certainly how it appears on my Credit card receipts and online transactions confirmations.. ;)

re 11

>>just for the record, there are thousands of private plates in england which are identical to TRNC plates.<<

YES, but there aren't any CY reg'd cars, and not many private plates in the UK with the SG 54 XXX format !

6m's, always nice when you agree with me. ie, " YES, there are 1000's of private plates in england identical to TRNC plates" just a bit lost when you say, but there aren't any CY reg'd cars. however, i beg to differ about not many private plates in uk with SG54 format not being private thou, as the letters after SG54 may not mean nothing to you, but may mean something to the driver/owner. so to the owner, its private, load of crap really, would you like your initals on your car?

re msg 13

I SAID.. but I've reformatted it, so as it is clear ! .. "but there aren't any CY reg'd cars ( and not many private plates in the UK) with the SG 54 XXX format !"

For sure there are any RoC reg'd cars with that format.. and I doubt any "TRNC" private plates, either..

I'm sure there aren't thousands of UK private plates with the format SG 54 XXX either

This was standard issue format Glasgow region Sept04- Feb05 registration format... don't see how thousands would be queuing up to make something of the last three letters ...

I confess I had the reg "VIJ 53" on an 5.3 V12 XJS I had ( old man's Capri, really) .. I believe it had been on a N.I reg'd Ford XR3i that was about to be written off...

So you had jaguars, I could only afford xj6's (chrome bumper ones) and they drank more than I did and do!

What happens when you invite a girl into your car? You get a 'sl*g in a Jag'!?
