I don't believe you can, quarantine laws and all that.

If anyone knows different, please post the information as I would be interested to know as well.

Pete.

If you mean from north to south forget it.

Heard a story a couple of years ago about a gc buying a dog in the north and when he got to border the gc customs took it and killed it!

Dont forget the wicked TRNC is full of diseases!

Dear DD

re msg 1

What an interesting Q !

The RoC are subject ti the normal EU laws re Rabies

1/ Dog has to be tagged electronically to EU approved std

2/ Dog has to have been vaccinated etc, to the same EU std

I am SURE that the RoC authorities will a "TRNC" vet is not recognised.. there IS an EU website that shows who and where you can go - I know "TRNC" wasn't listed - when we were checking about my Wife's pooch from Russia to Cyprus..

I think the only way to do it is via Turkey... but if I'm correct you ARE an EU citizen and have the right of freedom of movement.. now Dogs don't come under that - but the RoC cannot put undue hoops - other than the non recognition of "TRNC"

This is a job for the EU hotline 00800 67891011 ( free from within the EU)

You MIGHT be able to persuade a GC reg'd vet to go over and do the necessary....

If you need help on this one start with the EU. If you get stuck, send me a private mail !

Hmmm

If you tried to bring a dog into the UK ( without the proper accreditation ) what do you think might happen in the UK ?

I would have thought and hoped that IF this was the case, that the owners of the dog were served with the papers explaining WHY the dog was going to be put down.

6m.....thank you very much for this, most helpful! But, even if your dog/s have had all vaccinations/worming and any other extra's....this wont matter because a TRNC vet is not internationally recognised? Would i have to get a GC vet to 'vet' them before transport...bit of a catch 22 isn't it....i must admit, i'm wondering if smuggling them across isn't a much better way to go...???

:( re msg 14

Nope it was true :(

Wifey wanted to bring pets to CY ( RoC) and then onto UK - CY would not insist in quarantine - if animals could stay in CY for six months

So they would have been nearly a year before we got 'em in the UK - it just wan't worth it :(

(Photo of the Mrs' pooch - looks a bit like a Chiwawa, but longer legs and a pointer nose..)

Surely if you brought dog here from UK it will have its 'chip' and the first important rabies course done in UK with only top ups here - and even in Uk you can buy stuff to inject, worm etc your dog yourself. So am sure the same goes here - we had worming stuff brought out for us. With all that, and your original paperwork I think there is a chance you'd EVENTUALLY get permission to take it south. But how long is a piece of string?

Greeen line regulations

The movement of animals across the green line is prohibited. This includes pet animals as there is no distinction made only animals.

Any other method of transporting animals across the green line is illegal.

This applies North/South South/North

If you want the regulation number, paragraph etc I will post it.

Please no stupid remarks about stray dogs/sheep/goats/donkeys etc straying across.

Right here is the regulation

Council Regulation (EC) No 866/2004 of 29 April 2004.

On a regime under Article 2 of Protocol 10 to the Act of Accesion.

Article 4. Crossing of Goods

Paragraph 4. The movement of live animals and animal products across the line shall be prohibited.

In other words you cannot legally take any live animal across the line in either direction.

There is nothing in this regulation about pet animals/rabies jabs/microchipped/coming from any other country.

Unfortunately it is cut and dried until the EU say otherwise.

Daisy

If you are going to the other side on a permanent basis there is one way of getting your dog in legally but it is involved and may be costly. If you have a pet passport ie you have followed the correct procedure re rabies jabs and had the blood tested by an approved laboratory who certify that the blood contains the rabies antibody in excess of 0.51.u/ml you can take your dog into any EU country EXCEPT Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom and Sweden and the ROC if you try to use the green line. To do this you would have to leave the TRNC and enter the ROC via another country. It may be prudent beforehand to approach the relevent department in the ROC for clarification before arriving with the dog!!

Doing it legally is a pain, there are many people who will tell/offer you advice or know someone who can get round the rules but remember if a check is made your animals life is on the line plus maybe a hefty fine for you. The decision is yours.
