About £45,000 in notes and cash handed out to strangers by a 59 year old man at Palma airport. He had flown in from Manchester, and it was apparently part of an inheritance. Police stopped him, and sent him back to Manchester. Is it a crime to give money away? I thought it was lovely!

Paul. Thats a good link. Some of those photos are from around the Spitalfields area of east london. I used to cut through there in the 60's on my way into the city. According to ‘crisis’ there are an estimated 700 number of adults at any point in time sleeping rough in the UK. Thats not many, is it?

But is it a crime, or even an offence, to give money away? Can't understand why he was deported! (Though he was said to be drunk, or is that their interpretation of it?)

phylray. I don't think it's a crime to give away money. I think the police have concerns that it could incite trouble.

| I agree No1....it isn't a crime at all....but someone giving away money in the middle of a busy area, will certainly cause some sort of outbreak of violence...maybe he should do it more covertly...or on line...if you want to give away cash, you can...it just has to be done sensibly, thats all.
