We have at last received our partition permit. We thought that was all we had to do to have the land divided and the houses registered on the Kogan. Soon found out this was not so. Does anyone know what we need to do next! Have been numerous times to the tapu for help only to be told we do not have all the necessary documents. All we have been told is if we wait for them to do the work it will be about 2 years before it is done. The alternative is to employ a private company. Does anyone know how much this will cost, what they actually do and how long might it take. We have been at this for over a year and are beginning to feel the strain on our lives. Their must be others out there that have been through this and know the ropes.

Tilly The first question is: who's name is on the Kochan ie the legal owner? Only the name on the Kochan or a person granted Power of Attorney can apply for final building permission which is the process which starts the process of putting the house on the Kochan. Codger

Right if your names are on the Kochan you are over the main hurdle. To get the Kochan changed from Tarla or Arsa to your house details is very ivolved, fortunately at a cost of around £350- £500 you can get someone who will do it for you. You must apply at the Girne land registry for the process to start, they will want the complete original building plans and the original building permission document, the original Kochan in your name and all the taxes paid including the land tax. They will retain all of this so take copies of the building permission and the Kochan. That is a very short answer to what is required so my advise would be to bite the bullet, pay the money and seek professional help. I used 0mer Dalgakiran who is an architect and has his office on the one way road next to the coffee shop opposite the law courts. He speaks reasonable English and is very helpful he will advise you fully. Phone 0542 851 6756 Hope this helps and good luck Codger
