Is there anywhere I can access a wireless connection (pub/cafe) on my lap top when visiting next. I will be in the Catalkoy area.

Hi Pugsey

There used to be an internet cafe in Girne that would let you connect to the internet using your own laptop. But he stopped after he got a virus that spread from the customers laptop to all his PC's. He had to shut his business down for 3 days untill fixed the problem!!!

So as you can guess has stopped that practice.

I know the Rocks Hotel and Oscars Hotel have wireless in reception areas.

You would have to buy a drink or maybe a meal at before they give you password to connect.

I would expect to have to purchase something for the benefit/use of the facility. that would only be fair. To be honest it would mainly be to e-mail/msn home or go on here.

Thought I saw customers using lap tops at poppins opposite medview villas but forgot to ask before we left.

We use the Golf Club, The Courtyard, Altinkaya Hotel, Mountainview Hotel, always buy lunch or at least a few drinks but have never been challenged.

In addition to the above: -

Jasmine Court Hotel have chargeable access to their wifi - ask at recepetion, and for a few TL you get a slip with the URL and password which enables a couple of hours use.

If you have any probs, they have someone who will assist in setting up, FOC.

You can then sit in the reception lounge, drinking coffee and surfing in luxury!

You don't have to use your 'time' up all in one go (or all in one day) either, you can keep going back until it's all used up, then just buy some more credit.

If you want to do serious surfing, then you can purchase credit to use Extend 'hotspots' around the town - I don't know the cost of this (sorry, Extend is an ISP here, if you didn't know!).

And there's 3G, 150TL for a USB modem (or you can use your own *unlocked* modem if you have one) plus 60TL amonth or so - but this is getting V. erratic as demand increases

If you don't bring your own gear, there are loads of internet cafes that charge 1TL per hour.
