Hi robbie c The 'geology' dept deals with this - they issues the permits and come out and measure with maps & gps - and will advise you where there is water. I was told the official distance is 80 feet, but this variable if there is a recognised water storage tank/well nearby, which takes it to 100 feet. You will have to get your permission first as no firm will start to dig without it, and then you have a year to complete it. It is also advisable to have it added to your Kocan, when finished. I found where my water was by using a 'water diviner' (a nice chap) and it worked, as 'geology' agreed. I don't know where you live but be prepared to go down a fair depth unless you are near the coast, as i understand the water table is very low. hope this helps GG

Waddo You are correct there is a minumum distance, which 'geology' takes into acount when advising on the position - i don't know what it is, but looking at my setup, its about 20 mtrs 'upstream' so to speak. It is also advisable to get your water tested about a week after the well has been completed GG

There is only a minimum if you are british, our neighbour TC has 2 wells within 10mtrs of each other, don't think second had permission and our neighbour does not have permission to buy but had a well dug.

scruffdog, unfair comment. You payu's your money and you takes your chance. It is just that the British tend to try to stick to the rules more than the Cypriots as they have this little worm in the back of their minds that tells them they can always be sent away back to the UK. The Cypriots just do it and then enter into long and complex discussions and things about why they should not have done it to start with. At the end of a 40 year battle they give in and stop using the well - but by then most people will have moved/sold or just lost interest. It is the Cypriot way of life that is different in most cases and not that it is because you are British. Think of all the sheds and things that we put up in the UK without any permission first, then dealt with it later if somebody complained - same thing but no worry about having to leave.
