Probably been asked before but my mother in law is moving over in September and is wondering how she should get her pension paid. Should she get paid into uk bank and transfer or can it be paid direct to cyprus accounts?

any help appreciated

Depends I think on the pension but Hubby could NOT get his paid into a bank in TRNC as not a recognised country! They said they could not pay into a foreign bank but they are a Dutch company, and pay into UK bank no probs!

Pugsey i don't think you can have it transferred here you have to put it in your UK account first .

My husband's pension is paid DIRECT from UK to our HSBC account here. No transferring, it just appears each month (thank goodness).

Some time ago HSBC Girne advised us not to have pension transferred into their bank due to funds going missing in the system.

batgirl comment: I have been doing this for the past two years without any problems at all - best advise I could give is to do the same. Nationwide class TRNC as Cyprus and will not charge you for cash withdrawals!

I agree with batgirl & waddo,

My pension is already paid in to the Nationwide in the UK, when I am in Cyprus I just draw it out at an ATM machine. No problems & no charges.

Thanks everybody.

This is my best kept secret. My mother in law thinks I am the font of all knowledge.

If she did open HSBC uk account, would she pay fees to transfer to HSBC Cyprus account each time or is it free?

batgirl & waddo ..

How can you open a Nationwide account if you reside 24/7 in TRNC .. Will they accept Kibtec for a utility bill .. Is it possible to open a HSBC account in the UK from here if you have a HSBC account in TRNC and do internet transfers ..

If you are a permanent resident here, you are very unlikely to be able to open a new UK bank account.

You could return to the UK. though & give a UK. address but you would have to get round the UK utility bills in your name problem.

I have several UK. bank accounts but they were all opened prior to coming out here & all years ago. I have my pension paid into UK banks & I transfer funds here for free. I don't use ATMs either.

harita, prior planning prevents p*** poor performance is something I was always told. Therefore, before we left the UK behind us for good, we opened a Nationwide account. Nationwide do not care if you then move abroad on a permanent basis but once you have done it, then you will no longer have a UK address (unless you cheat just a little and give a mates address instead) you can not open an account.

Think ahead and save the worry - my dad's last great thought!!!

I know what can be done .. But my mum always said "Be sure your sins will find you out"

I beleive you can open a account in the UK from the TRNC but i'm sure there is a £10 charge for transfers unless you have a premier account in the UK. You need £50.000 to open the type of account.

Msg 19. I understood from previous postings you would get increase in pension and get the fuel allowance even if you lived in NC or Turkey. I am sure people on here have said they know people who live here get fuel allowance.

Does that mean they just don't tell the powers that be that they are here? So if they kept my address they would still get all the allowances?

be careful they do check. I think they may be confused about TRNC I rang last year and was told as long a I was in UK for 2 weeks in sept I could claim. I know many people here that do but they have ways of checking. I would not risk it. If you want to go back you may be charged I have heard so mant horror stories. give up your links and live in peace xxxxx
