I don't know if you guys know that there is donkeys in the blocked fences opposite ice disco which there are donkeys in there. I am writing this because there is a new donkey which has been left in there by someone that the other donkeys are attacking him. I was driving by when i saw the donkey which look so upset and been scared by other donkeys. Unfortunately i had to leave but i called my neighbours to call animal rescue to help. My neighbours searched for it all day and at the end they found it hurt. Today I saw my neighbours which there were trying to help the poor donkey because it has been hurt again by other donkeys. I didn't want to spend time there because my children loves the donkeys and they would have been very upset if they only known the donkey has been damaged. I am so angry with who ever been putting the donkeys there and not looking after them. It is a shame. Thank god i have loving neighbours to protect the donkeys as much as they can eitherwise just imagen

Not just in NC but various places I have visited Donkeys seem to be treated really badly. I know that the term 'beast of burden'is used but I have seen these poor animals reduced to just bones through cruelty by humans. Not even sure now that the donkeys in various resorts in the Uk on the beaches are any better treated. Hope someone comes to the rescue, or at least take them into the mountains and let them roam free and happy.

Well someone posts a message on here and no one does anything proactive, you guys who live over there should go and sort it one way or the other,if I actually lived over there I'd be on the case asap. There must be loads of people on here who live nearby.Maybe if you stopped bickering about history and trivial things and went and had a word with the donkey's owners, enough people might change things.

It would be nice if there was a happy ending to this thread

stusimpson:

unfortunatly, easy said that done. This is cyprus and these animals have been used for one purpose for decades, and thats to help around at farms, going from one place to another on them(riding). However there are people that are keeping them like pets in cyprus(cypriots and expats),though not many. But no such thing here as name and shame like there is in uk.Unless you convince the owner to let you take the animal away to look after it,there is not much anyone can do

The Donkeys in the Forestry enclosure near Ice Disco are well looked after we should know we feed them everyday. The new male donkey was put in there by a person thinking it was the right thing to do and did not realise that the old male and his son would attack the new male. It was us that found the new male yesterday and with the help of a very good friend got the donkey taken out of the enclosure to a new safe place.

If anyone wants to help these donkeys take your old bread, potato peelings, carrots and any old fruit and feed them they love a have a good munch on these instead of dry grass.

We have just got back from visiting the donkey in his new enclosure taking him some carrots and water melon and met the people treating his wounds, which are very bad, they have asked us to go there at 9am tomorrow morning and have given us the sprays to treat his wounds again. They have also told us that if we could find a good home for him they would be glad for him to go there. So if anyone is truely interested in giving this poor donkey a home please contact us.

i am so glad that i am not the only donkey lover. I wished that i lived in Cyprus but unfortunately we live in London and we are here for 3 months otherwise i would have done everything in my power to give them a good home. I wouldn't even mind if i could of looked after it at home but my partner would of not agreed because my house is not suitable. I always wished to have a farm but till i can make my dreams come true i need plenty time to save up. Thank you yorgozlu for offering help. I would talk to my neighbours tomorrow morning and let you know soon.

Hi,

I have just moved in to a villa behind the donkey enclosure - is the land solely for the donkeys?? I've always wondered what it was etc... and have always gone and said hello to the donkeys - funnily enough - they have never talked back...but i continue to try...

They really are beautiful creatures and I will certainly be taking down my old fruit and veg to give them. I pass it every day taking the dog for a walk and they invariably come to the fence and poke their heads through - very friendly!

Thanks Doggie for the info!

)))xxxxxxxxx

Donkey Update:- With the help of a few good friends we took some fresh carrots, soaked bread water melon and some fodder to the wounded donkey this morning, we treated its wounds and bound them up so that the flies could not get into them. We have been told that a vet is coming at 2pm today, so we will be there to find out what he is doing for the donkey and more importantly what else we can do for him.

But he needs a more permanent home where he can be looked after 24 7. Please if anyone has the land to look after this donkey - he is so friendly and always perks up when he sees us coming.

Yorgozlu. No one is wasting anybodies time - It's just that ginandtonic is not understanding the situation. The donkey was rescued and put into a safe temporary place, totally unsuitable other than for a few days, whilst treatment is on going. The most important thing on Sunday was to get the donkey away from the others as quick as possible.

This donkey DOES NEED A NEW PERMANTENT HOME.

We will keep updating this sight with all information available

Can't these donkeys be released somewhere more suitable where there is grazing and water?

The family of four donkeys that are in the enclosed area are doing fine and there is water and grazing for them together with the extra bits we and our neighbours give them.

It is the new male that needs re homing as you can not bring a new male donkey into the enclosure, as we have seen from the wounds this poor donkey has, as they are very territorial especially with the female expecting again any time now.

I drove past yesterday, they all seemed to be hanging out along the fence opp Santoria holiday village. They did look happy and well fed.

If you turn at the petrol station by home front you will see the fenced area with all the trees in it.

It is with regret that we had been mislead that the injured donkey was being seen by a vet and the advise we were given for treating his wounds was from him. Realising the truth this morning we went to the Girne Veterinary Department who took instant control and followed us back to the site where they examined the donkey and stated that there was no other cause of action but to humanly put him to sleep.

We can assure you all that the procedure was carried out with great care and we and the vet talked to the animal until he departed.

I can't beleive this at all. Poor donkey. I knew he was so upset when i saw him, he looked so misreable. I couldn't help him. If i ever see another donkey dumped in there i swear i am going to jump over the fences and take it with me till i can get him a better home.

Does anyone know how to remove the post from the cyprus 44? Because this is upsetting and there is nothing can be done.
