Most of the supermarkets sell them and they certainly look the part but unsure of the quality of flavour however, one thing the Turks do exceedingly well are their patisseries and desserts.

Hi when my Dad was over, we got him a nice chocolate cake it was already made and off the shelf. I would think if you want something special they would make it to order. Some of the cakes look good but dont taste all that, i think they use fake cream, but i can recommend chocolate!!!!

My cake lady is fantastic she makes delicious cakes as I am sure all the guests at our parties would agree. Email me for her details, I am sure she can sort something for you, her name is Sue. Many of the cakes here look fine but taste very synthetic and sweet.

my email is melaniepartington@hotmail.com

Although i'm not much of a cake eater, the ones i have eaten i have found them to very pretty and mouthwatering to look at....however, the taste is quite inferior and terribly bland. In my opinion either go to the south for one or better still make your own, at least that way you know it will taste better than wet cardboard!!

I used to buy at least 6 gateaux a day from Dano for my business, always good and fresh. You can order to from them if you have a special request. They made a fantastic cake in the shape of a number one for my sons birthday.

Have tried the local ones from Dano, Tempo, etc and they are good, but I'd like a 'proper' birthday cake - you know sponge and jam and cream and icing. Do any expats take orders at the markets?

"Have tried the local ones from Dano, Tempo, etc and they are good?"

I don't know about everybody else but we find the cakes on offer from the likes of Dano, Tempo etc. look better than they taste. They are usually far too sweet with not enough real flavour to go with it.

Worst of all they really don't know how to make a rich chocolate cake! I like mine chocolate with a bit of cake waved about it. They make them tasteless sponge with a bit of cocoa powder in the mix to make it just off plain sponge colour! Then it's covered with sweet confectioners cream and rolled in nuts...

All fur coat and no knickers!

Isn't there a English lady at Chateau Lamboussa that makes cakes, I know I have seen her decorating cakes and they look absolutely fab .. if your looking for something more English.

I understand what people are saying about the local cakes, I , persoanlly, find them a little sickly.

Thanks for your assistance - Got an excellent cake from Vicky at Black Olive cafe, Alsancak. Victoria sponge with jam and lashings of cream. Went down a treat - would definitely recommend. She also does chocolate fudge cake, carrot cake, and whisky fruit cake.
