| The extract below is from the BRTK in Lefkosa. I cannot find any news reports where President Talat ever mentions Reunification - he always talks about finding a solution to the Cyprus problem. I feel that with all that has happened in recent years and what we now know is happening at Gecitkale airport then perhaps the TRNC government (and Turkey) want to keep the north as a separate state with local government. Perhaps they do not want to risk discrimination from a majority GC government. What do other people think?? "The TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat has said that the objective of the talks between the advisers of the two leaders in Cyprus was to set up committees to bring solutions to the day-to-day problems being faced by the two peoples and to settle the Cyprus problem. The President reminded that efforts towards bringing a solution to the Cyprus issue had been unproductive since the 8-July Agreement as a result of the former Greek Cypriot Leader Tassos Papadopulos’ delaying tactics. He reminded that he met with the new Greek Cypriot Leader Dimitris Christofias last Friday and agreed to work on establishing working groups and technical committees to end the problems being faced by Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots and to bring about a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem. On the opening of a gate at Lokmaci, the President said the United Nations should carry out inspections in the area to make sure that it is clear of mines and booby-traps before the opening of a gate." |

| Hi Paul, I have always thought that might still be in the equation as an option, It might solve a lot of things if it was done that way. What are your views if that does happen. Thats the way it was done here with the North of Ireland, We live in Southern Ireland but as everyone knows there was a lot of troubled years before things settled down to the way they are now.
