Hello all,

Could anyone answer a question for me?

Is there any such thing as a TRNC passport?

Or do Turkish Cypriots have a Turkish passport?

Apologies as I haven't searched to see if this has been posted before.

If they can travel freely and it is a TRNC passport , does this amount to some form of recognition?

TRNC citizens have their own passports with which they can travel to certain countries including, I believe, UK.

Most countries, including the UK, will not accept a TRNC passport as a valid travel document. TRNC citizens are entitled to a RoC passport, which is, of course, valid worldwide.

As the TRNC passport is not recognised by most national governments (much like the republic itself), naturalised TRNC citizens have to resort to other nations' passports in order to travel internationally. (Many countries such as Britain, the U.S, Pakistan etc do accept the TRNC passport).

also a Turkish cypriot is entitled to an EU passport If he/she applies in the south.

although trnc passports are accepted in a few countries i would not say it was any form of reconition.

after all britian will accept a Trnc passport but does not offically reconise the trnc

The TRNC citizens(we)have our own passports, but not recognised by most countrys other than few(ie.turkey and couple of african countrys).Though not sure by how many, deffinetly not by eu and other big ones inc. uk.But look on the bride sight, most of us are entitiled to a turkish and roc passport ,and for the likes of me :british(thorough living there for so long)and irish(via marriage). So that makes 5 of them if my counting is wright

So does the UK accept a TRNC passport as a valid travel document or not?

If the UK and US don't recognise TRNC why accept the passport when a TC can get an RoC passport?

tHE UK does not accept TRNC passport without visa via british embassy cyprus.

So no visa=no valid travel document

all pre 1974 born tc s are entitled to roc passport

hope thats answers your question TRNCVaughan

What is in question is the actual passport, which is valid PROVIDED it has a visa. Many countries don't accept a UK passport without a current valid visa, so there is no difference.

Yes you are wright TRNCVaughan

But in TRNC'S case its the actual TRNC itself that isnt recognised

ie.You would need a visa to enter Turkey with British passport, which you get on arrival

With TRNC passport, you must optain that beforehand.Only then you are allowed to live the island to go to UK (FOR EXAMPLE)

If visa not optained and somehow a person skips customs and goes to uk(example)He/she would be put on next flight and send back

And there is also fines for relevent country

Hope this one helps

If a citizen of the TRNC was born Cyprus they can be considered to be a Cypriot and apply for a Cypriot Pasport (South Cyprus) which of course gives them access to the EU. A number of TRNC citizens I know hold Greek Passports, strange but true.

Dear Blackie

re msg 11

As there is no such thing, officially, as a "citizen" of "TRNC" to get a RoC passport one has to prove entitlement.

TCs have to swear an Oath to demonstrate their parentage and any CY id reference

>>A number of TRNC citizens I know hold Greek Passports, strange but true.<<

Do you mean ROC passports as opposed to GREEK?.. if so many, many TCs have RoC passports...

I remember the HUGE queues at the Lima(s)sol Municipal offices in 2003 where TCs were queuing to get their RoC ID and passports.. having one doesn't MEAN you support the RoC

My parents were born in cyprus, that also makes them RoC citizens(legaly)

I was born in cyprus, that also makes me RoC citizen(legaly)

My kids were born in uk,they too could be RoC CITIZENS(legaly)via myself

You will find that, the answer to your Q

Dear Yorgozlu,

you've more than proved your entitlement to a RoC passport.. but I have feeling you don't NEED one.. ( UK passport ?)

As you very well know, I was referring to those imported into CY - from TR -to alter the population balance and to fill the gaping holes when TCs continued to leave post August 74..

My reply was to answer you r Q, not what I have or not

the imported ones from TR,can never qualify for RoC citizenship, nor they can cross the board over to south

My target was %100 Cypriots, concerning our entitlements(legal)

(UK passport?):I dont need one(NI no is enough)

Any passport?not worth the paper they are written on

ID cards?Priceless

Its just nice to have that freedom to be whoever you want

hope the info gives you better view without offending you

Hi yorgozlu,

Reading through all you comments, Hopefully you can help me

I hold a uk passport and have a turkish Cyprus id card

I live in Turkey

I know i can live here with my id card

I have travelled to the Uk from Turkey using my Id card leaving and then my uk passport to enter the uk sometimes i have a problem but have always travelled

Now i hear i can not (and shouldnt have been) traveling like this, is this because i need to get my passport now?? if so wont i need a visa to leave with that passport or is it ok as i have a uk passport??

I cant leave on my uk passport as i do not have visa stamps or a residence permits as i dont need this as i can live here with my id card

I have called the embassy and they tried to help but in the end told me it would be up to the police on the day of travel

Im very confussed and wonder now should i just buy a residence permit to live here in turkey (even though i dont need one) just so i can travel easier

Dear Nadlc;

I travelled to UK and back by car last year.

On arrival to Turkey(Tasucu)I produced my TRNC id card as well as my EU passaport to be used whichever was apporpriate,to be told to use my id card so that I wouldnt need to buy visa.On arrival in Kapikule I gave my id card to be told that they wouldnt be able to let me pass since I was going to third country(Bulgaria),I then produced my passaport, only this time to be told that I could only exit with what I had entered with.

Anyway;after about 2 hours of strong arguing with no result I had to turn back, about 100 km after towards Istanbul I turned back and tried my luck at Edirne board.Only this time I wouldnt show them my passaport.I gave the officer my TRNC id card and when he asked me how I'd get into Greece I showed him my RoC id card.

Guess what...........I went through..........!

I let you work out the rest.

Hi BallyB

re 23 You CAN - if you can get your spouse 'in' and reside there legally for long enough... the Irish aren't exactly 'rushing' to hand out citizenship any more.. nor are they observant of EU rules re family members of EU citizens who aren't EU/ EEA nations themselves..

According to 'Ireland' my wife needs a Visa - despite the fact that the EU clearly say this is NOT the correct implementation of an EU Directive ( must do).

'Bout ye Mark!

Maybe the Irish Gov have changed the rules since yorg has been able to obtain an Irish Passport, surely if he can then Vida should be able to as well.

A lot of years ago I applied. As you know I have lived here all my life but was born in Singapore where my father was serving with the RAF, both parents Irish and my husband was Belfast born. I was treated like any other 'alien' and had to send off my birth certificate, my father's birth certificate, my wedding licence and also my parents wedding licence before I was granted my Irish Passport. Neither nationalisation or marriage was enough then, but perhaps things have changed now.
