Hi, I've just got a new computer and as the new Windows is Vista, that is what I've got. Unfortunately i did not realise that i would not be able to use all my programmes with it. As an example my HP deskjet printer/scanner is not compatible, the computer kindly pointed this out when i tried to load it. It did suggest I did a download which I did, but the printer took nearly 5 minutes to print of a simple letter, and cannot use the scanner, so tht is useless. What have other people done. Do I just have to buy another printer. It also uses Works instead of Word, so all my documents in Word couldn't be printed unless I would like to take up their special offer of buying Word from Windows.!! Help.

Stellastar

Unfortunately another Microsoft way of getting people to spend more money. Can you not download word from your previous computer, if not surely there are 'cheap' versions of MS Office out there which you could put on the new computer. As for your hardwear, the only answer I think is to either buy new or put xl onto your new computer and ditch Vista.

I've already emailed you saying I've got Word 2007 (commercial version) with code access but you haven't replied so not that desperate then!

Vista

I love it but it does have some compatability problems with old kit. What model is your printer and I will see if there is a workaround solution. It will run Word, you just need the original discs and code numbers. (Or the one offered to you above) If you have your original computer still there are programs available which will mine it for the licence number if you have lost it.

If that fails, Google's online Google Docs can read and edit word files so you can use that. Never done it myself but I hear it works

Thanks for the answers, and Richard you did not have to be rude. I have not been spending all evening on my computer as I do have other things to do. I have had word put on by a friend, I was just using that to make a point about how they try to fleece you when you buy something new.. It is the scanner and printer that I need help with. It is an HP Deskjet F380. Thanks Harold and Allen.

Can you not download a driver for Vista from the HP website, if you can you will find that the printer will work ok. Do the same for the scanner.

If you partition your hard drive you can have XP on one drive and Vista on the other, BUT I think you have to load XP first and then Vista to the other pation, that means that you have to format your hardrive and start again as above.

Well, one addresses a posting problem to help at no personal gain and the result is getting slagged off. No accounting for the mentality of some.
