Whilst on holiday I have to have a weekly injection. I do have a travel sharps container, but are wondering if problems could occur at Ercan coming home. Does anybody know if there is anywhere I can safely dispose the used sharps?

Drop the container off into the hospital in girne or even at the airport on your way through check in.

Sharps boxes don't exist here as I have taken patients to Girne Hospital and watched them in horror re-sheathing needles and throwing in the nearest bin. So yes take them to the hospital and hopefully they will continue to use them.

I put my used sharps into an empty beer bottle and plug the neck with some tissue, then put in bin. Good excuse to make sure that there is a regular supply of empty bottles.

Hi Aysesdaddy , what size needles are you using ? There is a little device called " BD Clip Safe " it clips off and stores the needles safely . Its used for Insulin sized needles but it might take other sizes , but it would mean you would have to re-insert the needle and keep cutting , it holds up to 1500 clips . Only thing i can think of that is entirely safe . Good luck , Simbas

Sorry Simbas, only just seen your message. I have pre-filled syringes that are about 13cms long. I have been issued with a small sharps box, but am a bit concerned about coming home and any problems that might occur with check in at Ercan. Also should I put them in case or flight bag. I know when I fly out they have to be in flight bag because of temperature. I do have a letter, which I have photo copied. Thanks for your help. Really looking forward to coming back to Kyrenia, couldnt make it last year.
