A little test from the Beeb

I got two wrong... My Latin teacher would kill me..

Seriously, try it - even if you didn't do Latin - you might be surprised at how "easy" some answers might be..

5/7 - OK joint effort, but, to be fair, neither of us did Latin at school (actually they didn't do English at Paul's school I don't think )

Err............7/7. But then, if I hadn't, the ghost of Mr Harry Harden [my old latin master], would have been less than impressed. In fact, even though I got them all right, he would have given me 6/7, on the basis that I wasn't as good as him. And yes, all the kids loved and respected him.

Arthur - yes, I had an English teacher (Mrs Slater) who was a bit like that!

Looking back, she was probably the best teacher a class of 15/16 year old girls could ever have. I still respect her - a pity there aren't a few more like these around now!

Regards.

3/7 not bad for me as I got kicked out the Latin class for telling the Master it was a dead language! The only time in my life I spoke back to a teacher. Oh well didn't do me any harm even though we still use some Latin terms in Nursing.

Got 7/7, but must admit, wobbled on the last one, as none of the answers seemed to be a perfect fit.

What if the 3 answer options were removed? I think, I would scrape max 4, but then again my Latin has always been appalling, even 20 years ago, when I had my last lesson.

Nice to see that multiple m has switched to Latin. Very noble!!!

Love,

Clarissa

P.S. Dear mmmmmm, have you guessed yet, that Sergei’s so called robotic English translations is what Ali G has been successfully doing for years : taking p**s ( sorry, should have said “pulling your leg”)?

Я думаю, что он над Вами подшутил, а Вы ему поверили – как печально!

Hi there all,

Miss Swotty got 7/7 but i was brought up with the mass in Latin, Italian parents, did Latin at School and won a medal for it but I must admit I had one too that I wobbled over so I was nearly a 6/7.

Ha ha,

Translates from 'dog Latin' as:

Oh, see, Billy!

See her go!

Forty buses in a row!

Oh, no, Billy!

Them is trucks!

What is in them?

Cows and ducks!”

Yep but more to the point who know's what Latin words/abbreviations have made it into everyday English language. I will start of with 'etc' (etcetera), meaning 'and the rest' or/and 'and so on'
