Seem as if this Forum was 'haunted' last night by a vicious poltergeist!

Don't know about haunted buildings. but a couple of months ago my friend was walking her dog at Aphrodite bay in Lapta when this woman appeared and spoke to her, telling her that she used to live in the house behind Sempati Hotel, which incidentally is an old Greek Cypriot house. She talked to her for a few minutes about things in general. My friend looked around to see where her dog had gone and when she turned back the woman had disappeared! She looked everwhere but no sign. Spooky or what.

This guy was on the side of the road hitchhiking on a very dark night in the middle of a terrible rainstorm, and no cars were on the road. The storm was so strong the guy could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly, he saw a car come toward him and stop. The guy, without thinking about it, got in the car and closed the door and only then did he realize that there was nobody behind the wheel! The car started to move very slowly. The guy looked at the road and saw a curve coming his way. Petrified, he started to pray, begging for his life. He had not come out of shock when, just before the car hit the curve, a hand suddenly appeared through the window and moved the steering wheel. The guy, now paralyzed in terror, watched how the hand appeared every time the car was approaching a curve.

Finally, although terrified, the guy managed to open the door and jump out of the spooky car. Without looking back, the guy ran through the storm all the way to the nearest town. Soaking wet exhausted and in a state of utter shock the pale, visibly shaken guy, walked into a nearby bar and asked for two shots of Scotch. Then, still trembling with fright, he started telling everybody in the bar about the horrible experience he just went through with the spooky car with no driver and the mysterious hand that kept appearing. Everyone in the bar listened in silence and became frightened, listening to this eerie story, hairs stood on end when they realized the guy was telling the truth because he was crying and he definitely was not drunk!About half an hour later two guys walked into the same bar and one said to the other, “Hey, there’s the ar**hole who jumped into the car while we were pushin it!”..

When we first moved to the TRNC we rented a property in Alsancak close to Pizza King and the Garden Centre on the main Girne to Lapta road.

My daughter first spoke with several men in an orchard next to us. Our son also spoke with them. They were 11 and 10 at the time. This is also how they were to become quite fluent in Turkish very quickly due to these conversations. Their teachers were very impressed with the way they learnt to speak the language and praised us for immersing our children into the local culture.

One night at a restaurant the waiter told us that our children spoke excellent Ankara Turkish and asked when we had lived there."Never," we said, "we've not even visited." The waiter was very suprised as he said they could almost be natives of Ankara.

After quizzing the children they told of the men they spoke to in the orchard. But the orchard was abandoned. No one worked there. "They are the soldiers watching over us," they told us...........

"There was a loud explosion and they were all killed. Now they watch over us to keep us safe."

My wife was stunned. She didn't believe them and we left the restaurant and they went straight to bed.

A few days later the kids were playing in the orchard and they appeared to be talking to thin air. My wife noticed and went over to them. She saw nothing but as she approached the kids the temperature dropped. They were talking Turkish to thin air. As my wife got closer the children turned and asked if she had seen them. She whisked them away quickly and insisted that we get somewhere else to live. We did.

We have a strange experience in our house each Christmas. In the corner of the dining room we have an artificial tree. In the mornings we find several baubles lined up on the window ledge. These are placed back on the tree, but next morning, there they are again. It doesnt frighten us, in fact our 13 year old thinks its funny and is always telling her friends. Ghost!! We tend to think its my deceased Father making himself known. He always sat in that corner.

Timothy - I think we may have rented the same house last year - did you have a pool or were you next door? Anyway, thankfully I never saw anything strange there...... although I could have done with improving my Turkish

susief,

There was no pool and the neighbours were Germans who kept themselves to themselves. We were there from February 2003 to May 2003.

Yes we were in the same house then, the one without a pool - Manfred and Eleanor next door with Boris the scary-looking but adorable dog! They were lovely neighbours, always giving us tons of lemons! We were there for a year up until last Christmas. We made friends with Osman who I think owned the orchard opposite - who built a stable and had a horse when we were there - and his son and daughter in law and their daughter. Really lovely people who gave us a great introduction to Cyprus. No ghosts then though - maybe our tearaway toddler son scared them away!!

A teacher decides to give her class a small pop quiz around Halloween.

"Okay, how many of you have seen a ghost?" About 30% of the class puts their hand up.

"Okay, how many of you have actually touched a ghost?" About 10% of the class puts their hand up.

"Okay, how many of you have had sex with a ghost?" Dead silence, until a little boy in the back row puts up his hand.

"You've actually had sex with a ghost?"

"Ghost? Oh. I thought you said goat!"

There was a great story a few years ago where it was claimed that the old quarter of Famagusta was haunted by evil spirits due. Locals were apparently scared silly by a creepy heavy breathing sound (no it was not a couple up to go good before anyone says anything!). The hoja was called in to exorcise the spirits and for a while the noise went away. Then it came back again so everyone turned to the hoja for an explanation. Don't quote me on this but his reply was that he summoned the spirits into his car and on his drive to wherever he was going to release them they escaped! Anyway to cut a long story short it was later discovered to be a family of owls that were making the sounds, of course with the old walls the sound was echoing around and exaggerating the sound. We stayed in a house in Kyrenia one year and experienced the same thing, it was most spooky, the locals were freaked out more than we were as we had seen the owls fly into the eaves of the roof
