Canestan HC cream is what is recommended for prickly heat. Can be bought in most pharmacies. And also take a Piriton (anti-histamine) that should help

Also at night, you may find having a regular upright fan directed at the bed to be most helpful...also keeps away any errant mosquitos too....i couldn't survive nighttimes without it...much better than aircon as this just makes me feel poorly! DD

Hi I suffered badly from this whilst in Spain (my neck looked like a lizard with the scales that developed on it). I went to the chemist and showed them my neck and they gave me a cream which is absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!! The spanish name for it is: Fluocide Forte. I cannot get it in Britain, so last month I had a weekend in Spain and topped up my supplies. The nearest thing in the UK is Synylar Gel, it is ok but not as good as the spanish one. Both of these creams contain steriods and should not be used other than to treat the condition whilst you have it and then stop. The cream contains: Fluocinolona acetonido. My doctor gave my Synylar Gel when I took the tube to him. I will be bringing the cream with me to TRNC to see if I can get it/or similar whilst I am there. Good luck - I sympathise (a bath in salt water can relieve some of the itching)

I also suffer with this condition, I found that creams of any sort did not solve the problem as they only blocked the pores more, which is what cause the rash in the first place. Staying cool constantly was the only way it went, then after that regular showers to keep cool and a dose of piriton or any other allergy tablet first thing in the morning and loose clothing. Always try to stay cool as its the sweat that cannot get out of the skin that causes this nasty itch!! But you prob already knew that much ! I hope the rash goes soon!

As somebody has said, it is caused by the blocked pores. This can be caused by sun cream and after sun! I suffer with it and have found that the only sun cream I can use is Nivia for Kids spray! When you come in at night, shower then dont put any after cream on just let the skin breath. After an hour put the canestan cream on and rub it in well. Wont go away straight away but will help. If you can not get any canestan, dislove a piriton tablet in water to make a paste, then rub that on. Goes powdery but does work. Good luck

Thanks for all the other suggestions although cannot stop him working & sweating!! He also does not put all lotions & potions on like me so that is not aggravating his condition. Have bought a tube of Canestan HC so will get him to try that out for a few days see if it works. We also have a saltwater pool so that should be doing some good as well.

Ozankoys,Canesten is a treatment for Moniliasis(otherwise known as thrush).Canesten HC has a very weak steroid component which is likely to have a minimal effect on prickly heat. Moderately potent steroids are useful, but if used long term, can thin skin, predispose it to infections and cause thread veins. All of those are highly unlikely to occur with short term use however. I use Elocon ointment/cream as it is a once daily preparation and very effective. You should be able to ge it over the counter in the TRNC as the pharmacists are very helpful, unlike in the UK,where litigation and bureaucracy have turned them into dispensers in all but name.

I shower frequently, dry off naturally, without a towel , and use Mycota powder, normally used for athletes foot. It works for me, and I have done this for a few years.
