Hypothetical scenario Bowler bowls, batsmen defends tapping ball which lands in and between his top pad and knee cap, batsman runs to boundary and claims a six. Batsman cannot touch ball or is given out for handling, fieldsman cannot touch batsman because of obstruction. Any ideas anyone as I haven't a clue, what would the ruling would be? Richard

Hi Richard, i think you'll find the umpire would not allow this as it would be deemed "un-gentlemanly conduct",its the same scenario if the batsman picks the ball out from the top of his pad and throws it to a fielder or wicket keeper and they catch it,the ball has not touched the ground so it could be deemed a catch! Chap goes the the doctors and says,doctor-i feel like a cricket ball. doc says -Howzat!! cheers sporty

If the ball is played and starts rolling backwards towards the stumps, even if its at the side and probably not going to hit the stumps,if you pick it up or stop it with your hand you would be given out if somebody appeals to the umpire, but you can put your foot on it,kick it away, stop it with your bat or sit on it etc,etc and you wont be out. Silly rules i know but a great game to play.

The ball becomes "Dead" whether played or not, it becomes trapped between the bat and person of the batsman or between items of his clothes or equipment.
