I'm visiting the North for a couple of weeks in July and would like to know where to go for arranging a family hire car... looking to get a taxi from Larnaca and have a car delivered to a villa... rates appear to be around £20/day.. wanted to budget for 12 days all in.. I know there always hidden extras ! so if there is any words of wisdom out there it would be much appreciated.

Hi Richy

I'd start with http://www.birdrentacar.com They will give you a quotation. From there you can barter with other companies. To tell you the truth we have hired from Bird and have found them to be competitive and very reliable.

Hi Richy

We have used Bellapais . £40 from Larnaca in a Vito (which seats 6 and takes lots of luggage). Car hire is pretty much the same as everywhere really - we are paying £15 for Ford Focus (April). Their website is http://www.bellapaisrentacar.com

Most companies do seem to charge roughly the same and I think everyone seems pretty happy with who they have chosen so I would say go with anyone who has been recommended on here.

I would second Bird Rent a Car in Karaoglanoglu. They have never let us down and will collect you from the airport then deliver your car to you at your convenience. The last time we hired with them we had a Citroen Picasso. I honestly cannot remember what the rate was but you will get a discount by booking on line.

Hi Karen and Jo

Have just looked at Bird Rent a Car, and they offer 25% discount if you rent a car from them through a direct contact.

Do you think mentioning either of your names would work???? Would you mind????

Pacific Rent a Car have always been very good as are Gunray Rent a Car. We have used Gunray twice now and they deliver wherever you want and whatever time (within reason). I'll email you some details as if you mention us they may offer you some sort of discount

The direct contact basically means booking online so you will get the discount anyway. They are very helpful and Dilber (a lady) will email you with a quote.

Gunray always good for us - Ozgur will reply personally to your e mail and give discounts. Always on time, will pick up from airport and drive you to your apartment if you wish or you can drive yourself. When you go back, you can either be picked up and driven to airport, or leave the car there for him to collect. Would recommend his service every time.

Double check the insurance.

First check they are offering Fully Comp in the price quoted because most now are only offering 3rd party to cut down on cost.

Second check what the excess is.

It is all very good having a cheap car hire until you have an accident and find you get lumbered with a massive bill.

Last thing, if you pay by CC keep an eye out later for extras. A friend of ours even keeps your deposit now until the car has been fully checked and then repays.

All of these things are not cons it is just because business is so tight at present.

Hi Richy, I have used a UK/Greek car hire company 3 times from Larnaca airport and booked it in the UK. Very reasonable rates and good cars.

If you are interested I will dig out the details and forward them on to you.

Its not a bad drive, it takes an hour and a half from Larnaca to Kyrenia and a very nice drive.............if you feel confident to do this I recommend it, and it makes it an interesting journey as you see the contrast and difference between going from the South to the North and going across the border is no hassle!!!....................Your choice....let me know I will forward details of car hire company and agent I book through.

Mike p.s.

Keep to the speed limits when you are in Cyprus! They have speed cameras and Cops both on the Greek and Turkish side and they are strict!

Hi hotty , i have to agree with you on that one , but in reality some families with children , have to go for the cheaper flights , and that means larnaca most of the time , so that they can visit more often ,and of course the school holidays are in peak season so flights are really expensive ,

Would highly recommend Eva Rent a car, K-Pet filling station opposite Colony Hotel. Very reasonable rates and airport pick up (Ercan or Larnaca). Speak to Erk. Phone No. 0090 392 8152275 or 0090 533 8607171. We have being using them for quite a few years now and they always give us very good rates

Hi everyone

This is my first posting. We have just returned from a fortnights holiday and used Pacific - rent a car. We booked over the internet and opted to pay on arrival at Ercan. I think it was £135.00 GBP for 10 days, we didn't think that was bad.

We collected our Vitara Jeep from a lovley guy, we paid our money, and as agreed, they have a £20 petrol policy. They put it in and we pay for it on collection.

We had no hassle and the fact that we collected and dropped it back off at Ercan made it ideal for us. Mind you we did have to pay 5 YTL to get the Jepp back into the carpark.

Hope this is useful. And we had a great holiday.

Hi there Chick-a-Dee

Welcome . I also hired from Pacific last month for 1st time & thought them

v. reasonable at £56 for 5 days. Delivered to apartment, and also had Vitara

Jeep. I paid by card & the £20 petrol just did nicely. My relatives coming in

August also found them to be best offer.
