Hi Dee

I think we need to go back to the Belediyesi again. Will try and arrange something for later in the week. I know the locals in the village are still getting mains water twice a week. It makes my blood boil and so does the heat at the moment..lol. It's too bloomin hot!

They would probably fine us if we did not pay our water bill. But you are quite right Loslobos. Why should we pay for water we don't get.

You lot in Lapta don't seem to be very well organised. If 50+ residence on mass descended on the Belediyesi demanding water someone might just listen, it would also bring to a stop any other business. Do this on a daily basis until they actually do something and don't get fobbed off with their bullshit, lies and empty promises. Wear them down, can't be that difficult. Good luck!

My next door neighbour now been out watering the garden for over an hour, her father-in-law brings a 2 ton tank on the back of a pick-up truck every other day. I asked if she had water in the villa the other night and she said no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strange as she had washing out first thing yesterday morning and had hosed down back and front terraces. In 5 years only had one tanker (6ton) in to fill the pool wish I had a magic pool like that !!!!!!!!!!!!!

That might only fine you 1TL but keep up the non payment and watch your water meter disappear!!! See how much it is to get it put back!!

Just a thought;

Nothing about keeping up non payment but if a 150 or so were "late" in payment it would quite severly dent the Belediye payroll.

As I said

just a thought.

The Mayor of Lapta says there is no water and may not be any for 15 days, so how is it that everywhere you go there are tankers full of water being sold at approx 10tl per ton. If these tankers can get the water then why can the Belediyre not get it, surely they should have priority as after all we are all paying for our 10 ton per month whether we get it or not.

Its the biggest con by Lapta Belediye charging us 15 tl for up to 10 tonnes when I sometimes only get or use 5/6 tonnes a month. Last month my bill was 44tl which I understood was every other month at this price and then 19 tl the next month but just had the new bill and it is 63 tl so what the #### is that all about. In the office they just fob you off with "yes that is correct price for this month" even though I know it is wrong but what can you do. The channel again last night opposite my gate was running with water for 6 hrs into the neighbours garden from Lapta. When I tried to put a pipe in he said "I will call police " so not sure about the law on this situation. He must be getting over 40 tonnes in the 6 hrs that the water runs as the channel is full to the top and all I wanted was a couple of bucket fulls for the toilet. LOL

Dear Lapta residents,

The Lapta main water supply has run dry. There is no water. But the mayor has promised free tanker water to everyone. They may not be able to cope with the demand, though, since they've only got three tankers. But it's worth a try! So go down to Belediye on Tuesday and ask for a delivery and you may just get it. I know I'll be there putting my name on the list!

Good luck all!

We've just had to get a tanker from a well only 50m down the road - 20tl for 2 tonnes - as we'd run out and wouldn't last until the Belediye got round to us.

There is enough water for everyone - unfortunately 95 per cent of the wells in the Lapta area are all private and the Belediye have been refused permission to use those wells by the govt. and theirs have run dry. It's the government you should be complaining too - they're the ones that give permission for private wells to be dug and the owners of those wells don't seem to realise that the water all comes from the same reserves and should be shared out equally - for them it seems to be an I'm alright jack case.

Still a bit more notice of the situation by the belediye and we could have started rationing a lot earlier and made what little they had in the wells last longer!!

if you don't like what belediye do have your water meters taken out and buy private like many others have to, think yourselves lucky you can get cheap water in the first place.

If you read the posts you would see that we are paying for water privately you moron, what we are objecting to is that we are also paying for water that we are not getting from the belediye, and perhaps if local people wasted a little less there would be enough to go around.

After receiving next to nothing in the way of water from lapta Belediye for the past 3 months - I am seriously considering ripping out my meter and just paying for tankers -

but will I still get charged for all the other monthly charges Lapta throw at us?

You know the ones that change every month for the same service and then change again when my Turkish husband questions them......

Best bet is for you all to move into Girne, we have no trouble getting water at all, for our tanks and pool.

What a disgrace for you all to go without water and still have a bill sent at the end of the month,

More and more I get to dislike this place

looks like the Alsancak council offices are going to be pretty busy this morning. To dispell one urban myth even the locals are without water so maybe we will get something done.

Why is everyone suddenly surprised there is no water? We have known for the last 2 or 3 years that the water supply is getting lower and lower and more and more swimming pools are being built, taking the precious water. Don't people realise that we don't have enough rain here to cope with the pools, washing machines, dishwashers, car washes etc. All things that Lapta didn't used to have. Then they had enough water. Why do people need pools when there is a huge one all along the coast.

I went to the Belediye the beginning of last week and had a tankard delivered free by the end of the week.

My next door neighboufs brother lives next door to Lapta mayor(belediye baskani),he rung me 2 days ago to ask if water was running while he was at his brothers,NO,

Today I went there to ask if water problem was sorted

Answer: NO

Q:When is coming?

A:at least another 2-3 weeks

Q:How comes mayor's area got water?

A:It comes from different well

So I said ,the same water should be shared by all, half hour a day is enough for eveyone

They offered to put my name down on the list for water!I said "no thank you, rung you twice so far,but had to buy before you find time for me.

Aparantly their is water crises in Lapta!!

But water tankers all around

If anyone can work that one out please let me now as well.

Fell very confused

I'm willing to dig this deeper.

Have been to belediye already. My next visit would be the main head office of UBP building. And beleive you me,they all know how crazy I am and what I am capeable when I lose it

And not far away from that now

nurseawful

I'm afraid we will still get our monthly bills.Pay it or not is another issue.

But make no mistake,my argument is not about money. If no one got water,Iwouldnt have issues of buying water. But some get it some dont!!Sorry guys but thats out of order.

We haven't had any mains water or a tanker from Lapta B for 2 months now.

Hubby spoke to them on Monday and yes some lucky areas in Lapta get water - lucky you. BUT some areas have problems............ unlucky us - this is the way it is and it doesn't sound like they are doing much about it.

Got our name down for a tanker at last - still waiting.

Nurseawful - you should only be paying 15TL a month - not 27TL, 27 is builders water charge - which all apartments on our our site are on- you need a letter from your builder to say villa/site is completed and then you have to take it somewhere and they will change you to 15TL a month for no water.

Hattikins, Namsoy is in the paper again today (Cyprus today) saying they have encountered problems with the well they are digging. We had no water for over three weeks. Got a little last week but nothing to write home about, now for the past three days nothing again. Thought - I wonder if he is getting a cut from all these private tankers that he recommends we use.? Even my friend in Karsiyaka is getting more than us.

it`s pouring out of the rocks outside the Belediye today and running away down the gulleys. They are also watering the roads before they sweep them.

This question is also posed by people who care about the ecosystem and the future of Cyprus. What proportion of Turkish Cypriots have a swimming pool compared to expats?

Exactly...

Loulou. There is no justice for us, and you wont beat the Liars. It`s a wonder they haven`t got noses 9ft long. What really gets me tamping is when I am standing by my gate and they are passing by washing the road.

Has anyone looked behind the Lapta Beledir offices when they are there complaining? I went the other day to try and help a tenant get water which does not exist and was looking out to sea to remain calm, looked down and there are two bededir men water a grass garden to the rear of the offices!!!! There is no use for the gardens which belong to the beledir yet they have water!!

loulou......I live in Karsiyaka and have no problem with water supply. But then I have a 7 ton tank and would recommend fitting one to others. We get water every 2-3 days.

However if you are further down beyond the main road then you may suffer as they don't keep the supply running long enough..... Complain to the Belediyesi. They can be helpful on occasion.

We have had no water for 5 weeks now, I have been on the tanker list for 3 weeks, no sign yet.

I went to Lapta Belediye office on Friday again, a Turkish interpreter was there and told me that we do not have to pay the water parts of our bills. Has anyone else been told this.

re msg 80

littlejohn,

I live in lapta

I have a pool in my garden,

We also havent had any water for the past 5 weeks,

my pool is half empty because I feel guilty to call tanker out when we are strugling to get water for domestic use

But while on subject, may I remind you that the tankers of water we call out to feel our water tanks at our own expense also comes from wells around!!

The only and huge difference is,is that the wells those tankers get their water from are far below mountain level, and thats where the "belediye's"water comes(or used to)from.

here the question

Since the water travels down from the mountains in to the sea,

how comes wells way below that level have got water and "belediye" dont???????????

Ok, everyone;here it comes again,

I went to Lapta Belediye again yesterday to ask about for some water(I thought,I better since I'd got my bill with nothing provided,ie.no water,no street lighting,no road...)

When asked,"when am I gonna get some water delivered, since I've been waiting 2 and a half weeks..!

Their answer;

Sir,we have now found the water, foams and bubbles started coming up(whatever that means)and as soon as water comes up ,we will put it straight on.(how long is piece of string)...No, I dont need you telling me how to measure it Brinsley thank you very much...

Their tanker(one day they have 3,another day just 1)is broken down and they are not doing tankar deliveries anymore!!!!!!!!

Eventualy, they said ,max.3 days.....

I assume, they meant 3 weeks!!!!!!!! work it out for yourselves!
