A friend is planning on doing a trip to IKEA on Thursday 30th July. She can take 5-6 people. If there is enough interest she would do a trip every other week. Price: 20 TL pp.

Call 0542 881 05 57 for more info

I would be interested in going sometime but not on 30 Jul as my wedding anniverary! I guess there would have to be a central pick up point as I live out past Esentepe?

Hi CarrieRBag,

Thank you for your interest.

I am sure there will be other trips.

Yes, there would be a central pick up point somewhere in Girne/Kyrenia, but also in Alsancak. I don't know the exact location, though. If you call the number above my friend will give you all the details.

presume your friend has hire and reward car insurance for the TRNC and ROC and pays taxes on the profits?

do not want to be provocative but these are legal requirements.

Stavros is right. I`m afraid you are asking for trouble merely by advertising on this board. My neighbour was doing this for a long time but the inevitable happened. Somebody (we think the taxi drivers) reported him and he was taken to the Police Station and told he was not to use that vehicle for that purpose any more and that the registration number is now on the police computer. Some people will never learn though because he sold the van and carried on doing the same with his car!!!!!!

the taxi driver which brings us home on a night asked me to keep him informed of all these practices as it was taking away his livelyhood. i have told him i would and passed this information on to him

Have yet to see a 'poor' taxi driver, if they're not ripping off journey costs to Ercan, they act as 'pimp carriers' to the girlie clubs and not only on fares but kick backs from the club owners for delivering 'clients'!

I don't know why one always has to explain one's actions on this board. Seriously guys, where is the profit in this when costs are deducted? Do the maths. She really just wanted to share the costs with a few other people and perhaps make some new friends. I normally go with her myself since my Turkish Cypriot license is not accepted over there and we always share the costs. Like this Thursday. Mum and I and a bunch of ladies are going. It is called carpooling. The reason it is Thursdays is it's the day she is free, the reason it is every other Thursday is every Thursday would just be too often. Even a Swede can't eat Swedish meatballs every week!

Anyone interested can call the number in msg 1.

Everyone else, please refrain from commenting. I already know all of the above.

Thank you

Ingrid

20 TL x 5 Pax = 100TL, petrol 50 TL, insurance 40 Euro, a little wear and tear, WHERE is the profit?! Some people are really so anal. Bon Voyage!

Did you misunderstand my drift? I was not knocking Ingrid1 but the ones that took offence to her idea of covering costs going South. A monocle is a single eye glass eg Patrick Moore, (Sky at night)!

IngridL,

I think that car sharing is an excellent idea.

Perhaps it might have been wise to explain that the idea was simply to 'share costs' and not to charge a 'flat fee'.

Then again, ain't Hindsight a wonderful thing?

As for having to explain! - Well, it's a public forum, and for everyone who posts, there are ten people, all with different opposing views! - That's what makes it so interesting, even if it is a bit wearing sometimes...

Best of Luck with the scheme, and don't eat all the meatballs at once - you'll end up looking like me, or worse still - like Vaughan: - http://www.flickr.com/photos/parklanenortherncyprus/3730609908/sizes/o/

Keith.

I want to thank some of you for your positive replies. Please call the number in msg 1 to book your place.

We're going to have a fab time. A bunch of ladies going shopping. What could be better?! (Before you say it... I am not being sexist. Men are welcome, too. I just figured women were more likely to want to go)

And for the rest of you... Thank you for keeping my post on top!

Ingrid,

We are not over there on a full time basis yet but I am quite sure that my wife would like to join your group shopping trips, I think it is a great idea, people car pool to work, why not to shop.

Good luck to you, I hope it all works out well.

>>Can you see the Greek Cypriot authorities supplying any thing in Turkish ??<<

As the official languages of the RoC are Greek and TURKISH - I'm sure that a Police report could be translated at the Press and Information offices where folk are employed to translate docs from/ to Eng/ TR / Russian / GR etc.

Q: Would the RoC Police report be "recognised by the "TRNC" insurance co.... ;) ! ?

My apartment is due for completion any time now. I would love a trip to Ikea when I am in Cyprus.

Is it ok to bring things thro the border ??. I could spend a fortune in there completing my apartment.

Do you have a big bus to fetch everything back ?

Interesting conversation. I was in on the first suggestions that we bunch of ladies might want to go shopping and we could all go in one vehicle - the largest one owned by a particular lady in the group. I couldn't go, but I want to go next time, please Ingrid, clos it is cheaper fo rme to go with friends that get my car insurance folr another month.

This is nothing to do with commerce, but everything to do with friendship and sharing. And I don't know about you guys, but I need friends, and I need sharing, and I like the IKEA complex even though I gointo Debenham's next door.

So, count me in next time (although I reckon there might no tbe room). And one final thought. Be kind toIngrid. She is a great lingjuist. Her first language is Swedish, so may she be forgiven if she conveyed the idea that this was a money making enterprise. I wonder what Imight have said in Turkish.

So, see you all with a few euros and one carrier bag so we stay within the law.

The 40tl insurance lasts a month, so if you go every week it's only 10tl. a trip. Still good value at 20tl, I'm sure my better half will be interested. I have a 7 seater with a big top box if any fellahs are interested. In UK for 8 weeks yet though.

Best of luck ladies.

it is easy enough to go on the local bus for next to nothing. Just walk through Ledra Street and down to the bus station. The bus stops right outside Ikea and returns from the same spot.
