Now we shall start implementing such ideas and plans as soon as possible...it will be case of 'watch this space' We have also homed and fostered 2 cats and a dog...and this was on the first meeting!!!!!!!! Once again, thank you to everyone....and lets hope this community welfare programme will get as much support as possible!! We shall have another meeting in a months time to discuss were we are at, and what, if any, progress has been made! DD |

Hi DD i was very pleased with the turn out and ideas put fprward. We can only progress from here. Also to get Crick and Crock to a good home was more than I could hope for. I broke my heart when they went though but it would have been very selfish of me not to let them go. well done xxxxx

Hi Daisy Any chance that someone on the fostering scheme may be able to take a stray that has turned up in Lapta, its a golden retriever type, quite young, very sweet. Its taken up residence in an apartment block under the stairs and will definately be evicted on monday when the owners come out...so worreid about him because it is in an error that has been poisoned many times. Thanks so much karen

Hi Tinkie....the fostering system is still being developed at the moment...it's not yet ready, these things take a bit of time to set up...but if you keep posting maybe you will find someone who can take the dog on temporarily.... DD

| Apparently it was a good meeting with ideas and plans discussed, that is what we are led to believe by the above postings. However the first real test has arrived with message 13 and an answer is required if the Fostering System is not to be thought of as a lot of talk and no action. This is not knocking the Fostering System, a very good idea in principle, but as some of the persons attending were responsible for the recent savaging of KAR it is a chance to show that those same persons can now do a better job of rehoming/fostering animals. | Codger....there were lots of good ideas and plans discussed, but the first thing is to get a website up for people to register their names and what they can offer...the website is being designed as i type, so hopefully it wont be too long before it's ready. The meeting was not about savaging KAR, it was about trying to make a difference, so hopefully it wont be long. DD |

Spider I am not one to shout my mouth off on a forum about what I do for the stray/abandoned animals, perhaps if you ask Daisy Dukes my position on this you will be enlightened . It will make your having two dogs and moaning about another dog seem rather pathetic As I keep saying check your facts before making wrong statements. Codger

Please, can we not argue on this thread....there has been way too much of this recently, and i for one would rather channel energy into coming up with more ideas on the fostering system...thank you DD

lulu...no, it's not a charity, that would be a whole other ball game...although if people want to make personel donations to fosterers im sure that would be allowed, as some people may not be able to afford food and vet bills.... This system will be done mostly via a website where people can register and say what sort of help they can offer whilst the animal is awaiting a permanent home. But as i said earlier, this is still in the infant stage of trying to set it up, it's not going to happen overnight...so all i can ask is that people hang tight until we're ready to launch the site. Thank you so so much for your interest, please feel free to email me at any time. DD

DD. There has been a kitten dumped on the road outside our house. How it`s not been run over I do not know. I have fed it and given it water since yesterday. It is really quite young, little ginger tom I think. I already have a big german shepherd and two cats who already hate each other. Also I am renting so it`s impossible for me to keep it. My dog would probably eat it anyway. He`s ok with our two but will not tolerate other cats into the garden. I heard a commotion this evening (raised voices) and my immediate thoughts were with this little one. There were three youths coming up the hill and they were tormenting it, throwing it to each other and I just flew at them (silly thing to do I know). Cut a long story short they threw the kitten down and told me to f----k off. I dont think somehow they were turkish cypriots.I know I`m rambling now but I dont know what to do other than feed it and hope it comes to no harm. Mrs W.

Oh no...this is awful!! I think giving it some food and water and maybe keeping a close eye on it is about as much as you can do...it's a lot more than a lot of other cats get. It will in time be able to fend for itself with a little help from you. I don't think it is completely necessary for it to be kept indoors, so don't worry yourself too much, cats are quite well equipped to fend for themselves, unlike puppies for instance...maybe you could ask around to see if someone would be willing to take it home.... My dogs also hate cats with a passion, so i understand your problem...keep me posted on the outcome. DD

This sounds like a great idea & system! No wonder Chateau Lambousa market was so dead yesterday, everyone must have been at this meeting... hardly sold anything!!! Unfortunately I rent and can't have pets in the flat, but it's nice to see people helping out as there are far too many stray dogs & cats here! Natx

Great outcome for the kitten, so would anyone be interested in the golden retriever??? She is young, sweet natured and heavily pregnant. She has taken up residence in the strairwell of an apartment block in Lapta but I am certain that when the apartment owners arrive on Monday that she will be evicted. It is in an area that has been poisoned several times in the past and I am very worried about her. I have 2 dogs who dont like others and so there is no way that I can take her or I wouldnt be posting this now. Please if anyone can help call me 0533 845 0962 for details. Many Thanks Karen

Liz. Thanks so much. Only problem is Mother has turned up today, but no doubt she will survive without him. I gave him a seat pad off my garden chair to sleep on last night and he is still there this morning. I am just really worried about the main road in front of us because it just sits in the middle of the road. A young man who works for the Lapta Belediye came yesterday with a wedding invitation for us and he picked it up and said "I`ll take this home with me" Unfortunately the little cat did not want to go with him. He is so sweet and I know he is one of hundreds in the same situation but in two days I can see him improving. Liz I dont have your phone number. Thanks. M.

Update on `Lucky` the little ginger tom. I took him to Liz today after dropping in at the vets. He is such a lovely kitten, is very affectionate and would make someone a lovely pet. Liz bless her heart has already updated me on his progress. Vet said he is about 6 weeks old. He had a temperature and chest infection but has been treated with anti=biotics. Sorry if this is boring to some people but there are some who were interested like D.D. and Spider.

Any one in a position to foster the beautiful golden retriever type dog, who is living on borrowed time at the apartment block? She is lovely but just needs somewhere that she can safely have her babies. x
