Family attacked by mob on holiday



Simon Pierpoint was stabbed and beaten during the attack

A Shropshire family have told how they were attacked by a mob of up to 30 people in a Cypriot resort.



Simon Pierpoint, his wife Jeanette, and their five sons, from Bronygarth, near Oswestry, fled after being attacked in Paphos with knives and wooden planks.



They had flown out to the resort for a wedding and were on a night out on 17 June when they were set upon in what they insist was an unprovoked attack.



A Foreign Office spokesman said Cypriot police were investigating the attack.



He said consular staff on the island had offered support to the family after the incident.



'Totally unprovoked'



Mr Pierpoint and his four eldest sons were taken to hospital but discharged themselves two days later to attend the wedding.



He said the incident began when his 18-year-old son Oliver was attacked and he went to his aid.

I spent a weekend at Kumyali village a couple of weeks ago. This is a village in the Karpas peninsula. It was a GC village pre 1974 and apparently the coffeeshops were segregated as Makarios supporters and Grivas supporters and they were at each others throats.



The TC who showed me round the village knew the area very well and speaks Greek as well as the GCs. He was telling me about his recent visit to the dark side. He went to Larnaca and was telling me that the coffeeshops are still segregated as leftists and rightists. Leftists support Christofias in his efforts to find a solution with his Comrade Talat and the rightists are against any kind of a deal and both sides are ready for street figths again. So as a community the GC youth are looking for a fight and any excuse will do. I rather keep away from them. They are the arrogant and spoilt children of the west.

I think people are forgetting that the Pierpoint family had no knowledge or interest in the local politics and regardless of who they were this is a truly awful thing to happen. The group that attacked them had knives etc and were yelling get out of town. I have not heard of a group of TRNC's attacking a british family out for a wedding, screaming get out of town.

I am JUST as quick to ask for to take things to be taken into context when I hear someone had a bad experience in the "north"...



I have had the pleasure of Izzie's company in, N. Nicosia ( several times ) Famagusta and Limas(s)sol.. I feel sure that he felt as safe in my company as he did in mine .... ;)

If this happended in Ayia Napa I would have believed it..............but Paphos. A bit worried as we have a wedding to attend in the South this August!



Agree with earlier comment, not heard of anything like this in the TRNC, always feel safe when we holiday in the North.

There a lot of frustrated undividuals in the south and attacks are not restricted to Brits; a lot of racist attacks especially on students and asians occur without provocation. I do not know butI wonder how many of the board members have noticed that whilst driving in the south on TC plated car suddenly you will have behind you horning for no reason at all or how many have noticed gc driving over driving around Girne or Magusa with the music on full blast. he arrogance is immense and should point the newer generation tc in the right direction as to how the vote for unification

ahh. poor innicent brits. again you are all listening to 1 side of a story and making your comments,ive been out in limmasol and nicosia many times and had no trouble,met alot of nice people in fact,all asked where i stayed,i said in the north, there reply..how is it over that side!

It is no more a dark side in the south as it is in the north.

If you go looking for trouble you will find it. It is no different up north apart from 3 time more theiving as a lot of people report on this forum. At least the Police dont beat the shit out of people to get a confession for something they were not involved with (Ismets own words) Ismet I have a lot of time for your posts always sensible and interesting reading.There are just as many spoilt brats in the north running aound in there Beemers and Mercs. Compare those to 'number of attacks' in the north (if any). Furthermore, in the majority of the case I have read it always happens that the police do not tak any

We are not talking here about in relatative terms with other countries but in the ROC, and if you like with the NC. Of course there is racism and prejudices in every country (Russia, UK, etc) but we are not talking here about other countries. We are talking about the arrogance of the GC- yes, as m say he has lived there for 7 years he may have and I have for more than 13 years butt that does not change the fact that there are racist ttacks and whats more attacks on TC's and their car - search this forum for discussion on the issue; I have so far to come accross similar attaks on GC by the TC. As tROODO points not 100% of the GC were involved (or vice versa) in the killing as neither 100% are not involved in mindless attack now.



So I still fail to see the point m is trying to make or defend.

Hey guys,



I was there, I am the eldest son (24) I was stabbed in the stomach and shoulder as well as the general baseball "batting"



I am a mortgage broker, my brothers are trainee architect, electrician and a student, none of us have ever been arrested/cautioned, we were genuinely just on a night out, our partners were also out in another group on bar street, we all have partners and weren't chasing girls or anything else provocative, it was an organised attack which was sprung like a trap (5 men got my youngest brother on the floor, when we ran in we were surrounded from all sides by guys with various weapons. We fought and ran our way out as best we could but at no point held weapons, our bodies were testament to the fact the attackers were armed, I personally had 15 baseball bat/pool cue welts.
