Retiring this year to North Cyprus to a villa with No Central Heating, we have been advised to put in the container from the UK either Halogen heaters or oil filled radiators, as they are cheaper here. What is anyone's experience. this will be our first winter in North Cyprus and everything we read says it will be cold!

Hi chicken

when we moved here we bought a couple of halogen heaters with us from the uk,They were very good and we decided to buy a couple more here in Cyprus where we found they cost a lot more. you can pick up really cheap heaters in the uk, if i were you, id bring them with you, you'll need them night time in the winter when the temp suddenly drops after 4pm.

These are good, and look the part not like normal gas bottle heaters, our friends have one in there conservetory, and it throws out a good amount of heat, if you getting a container it might be worth investing a couple, as gas is the cheapest heat. Look at :

The problem with villas/apartments in the TRNC is that most are open plan downstairs. To get any benefit out of any heating device you would be well advised to purchase 'winter curtains'. These are heavy duty curtains that will isolate parts of the villa to retain warmth in that particular area. They are relatively cheap and will save you a fortune on heating bills.

Catalitic (spelling) work the best for us - gas with no smell!! Cheaper in the UK by miles.

Could have problems bringing gas heaters out from UK as they may not marry up with bottles here. Check it out first.

Thank you for your help. Are these special weight curtains or just "heavier" than normal and also is it cheaper to buy these in the uk. Any ideas where to purchase? thank you
