Retiring to North Cyprus and so think it wise to buy a generator in North Cyprus. What size would be best for a 3 bed villa, and who supplies them?

Depends what you want to run off it, anything that heats or cools eg air conditioning units , kettles etc require a lot of juice, or you could just connect up essentials, go into the provider and tell them what you want and they will help you.

If you want to run your a/c off the genny either make it a big genny or get inverter a/c.

I bought a 3.5 kva about 4 years ago. Ran essentials, lights, t.v, fridge etc but not kettle, immersion or air-con. Can't remember when I used it last as not many power cuts now.

I have an 8.5kva and it will run 1 aircon unit and the oven at same time, So really you dont need any bigger if its just for a backup when you have a power cut.

Have been here six and a half years and cant remember the last time I used my generator. I have a three bedroom villa and have a 5k generator and found that it was ample.

Suggest you wait until you have been here a few months to see if you need one. Dont think you will.

I got mine in the south.

Hippo I too can remember that day, I was so glad we had booked to go out & the restaurant had its own generator. How miserable was that, although these days we hardly ever have them it would seem.

we, kibsolar,

are the only company in the TRNC which deals only and only with renewable energy systems and battery buffered automatic (and of course silent) back-up systems.

we offer PV modules, solar chargers, true sine wave inverter/chargers, batteries and equipment to unbeatable prices and of only best quality.

same applies for so called "solar thermals", meaning domestic hot water, central heating back up, pool heating or all in combination and space air heating as well.

THE monthly offer for august (order date): PV solar modules and a solar powered pool pump as a DIY set and easy to install.

kibsolar....the only real green company in the TRNC.

I know some friends who are selling their generator, it is a 6.5

They ended up paying more tax on it when they brought it over than they actually paid for it! From that point of view, I think they would recommend, if you need to buy one get it over here. You might find though you don't really need one.
