It has come to my attention that it is not possible for a person outside the UK to play the UK lottery, as they wont pay out any winnings! Was anyone else aware of this? Can I play while overseas? Please remember, you need to be a resident of the UK or Isle of Man at all times when you play UK National Lottery games through your interactive Account. In countries outside of the UK and Isle of Man, local laws often prevent the sale or purchase of tickets for any overseas lottery. To protect players and the UK National Lottery, the National Lottery Rules and Terms and Conditions prohibit people from playing online in any country where it is unlawful to do so. Lawfulness will vary from country to country and, possibly, from time to time. This also means that, under local laws and National Lottery rules, we would not be able to pay out any prize in these circumstances. Therefore, we would advise players to assume that it is unlawful to purchase a ticket whilst abroad, and to only

'cont, and to only buy their tickets whilst located in the UK or Isle of Man. We would therefore advise you only to buy your tickets online when you are actually located in the UK or the Isle of Man. This also applies when playing by text and through Sky Active.

Michelle The restriction is applied to people not resident in the UK. This is a legal term and does not cover people temporarily outside the UK. There is no written definitionof resident as far as I am aware (certainly there isn't for tax purposes) but to be on the safe side play online before ye go if on holiday or have a uk residence address as backup in case it's you. Furthermore you should respect the local laws on Gambling wherever you are resident (Not a clue what these are in TRNC) Good luck any way Harold

The reason i have put this on here is because my neighbour rang them about changing his email address....etc, and the woman he spoke to knew by his IP address (i think) that he was in Cyprus and therefore was NOT entiled to play online, and/or if he had won he would NOT be able to claim!!!! Good job he wasnt ringing to claim the 'Jackpot'!!

We received an email stating that we could not play the UK lottery, even if we were on holiday from outside the UK. We could, if we were in the UK, buy 'x' number of weeks lottery before we left if we wanted to. I now get my mum to do it for me from her computer and top up her account, so no problems for when I win the 'big one'

Hi Richard As I said, if you "appear" like you are in the UK - via a VPN - no problem - the important thing is official UK residency. If you are using a secure VPN how would Spain / USA *KNOW* ? ;)

I'm a little confused Richard, does your computer know if you are on holiday as opposed to being a resident, I need the software for that if its free because I have paid for a VPN that is probably Similar to Marks product and that works perfectly but if I had known that I just need to tell the computer that I am only on holiday I could have saved the money and bought more lottery tickets. Just for info if any one is that addicted to playing the lottery, I believe the Euro lottery is open to all at least it used to be, I haven't played for quite some time.

| The problem Camelot identified was in certain countries (ie Spain & USA for example) you cannot play the lottery on-line, you must buy in person Therefore if you purchase a UK lottery ticket on-line whilst in these countries you would not be allowed to collect your winnings Camelot evidently can tell where you purchase on-line from !!!!!!!! | I have emailed Camelot and asked Which COUNTRIES you CAN play the Lottery in and this is there response: Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for your Email dated 11 August 2009. To play the National Lottery online, you must be a resident of the UK or Isle of Man. When players register to play National Lottery Games online, they agree to comply with the Games Rules and Terms and Conditions. If your circumstances change (for example, you move overseas), under the Rules you are required to inform us – just as you would, for example, notify your insurance company or bank. It is also important to remember that in, many countries, it is unlawful for anyone to purchase a lottery ticket (and therefore be paid a prize) for any overseas lottery – including the UK National Lottery – which is not authorised there. |

| If you are travelling overseas for a short period, you can purchase tickets in advance (eight weeks for Lotto, Lotto HotPicks and Thunderball, four weeks for EuroMillions and one week for Daily Play). Alternatively you can play the UK National Lottery with friends and colleagues as part of a syndicate whose Syndicate Manager is located and is playing in the UK. We provide a Syndicate Manager tool at http://www.national-lottery.co.uk for anyone wishing to set up a syndicate. I trust that this has clarified the situation for you. | I asked because your profile is not updated,as there is a quote saying you´re not 50 yet. I said 50 pounds referring to your VPN price because there is a two months minimum contract plus a set up fee. So in total it is: two months at 20 pounds each plus 10 pounds setup fee equals 50 pounds. That is the minimum amount a person has to pay to subscribe to your VERY expensive VPN. |

We usually spend 3 months in Northern Cyprus and have got round the problem of buying lottery tickets by setting up a Direct Debit payment through the Bank. It saves a lot of hassle.

I found that my credit card is unacceptable if I try to play on line, so, my step son gets a ticket for me, and I have promised him 10% when I win (more than the usual £8 I get on Euro millions!), and I shall rush over to U.K to collect the money if it is THE big one. He collects the small amounts and puts it towards the outlay - except I am always owing him oney. But as they say 'you have to be in it to win it.' This applies to both U.K Lottery and Euro Millions. One can actually play on line from here on various other sites, but you pay through thenose for it. So, find someone you can trust in U.K.

Solution to those without UK bank accounts/ cards and no access 1/ Get a UK based prepay credit card.. sent to the address of a relative with the same surname 2/ get a UK vpn ( virtual private network) If you win BIG.. fly home - QUICK - and register on the electoral register.

Why not play with a UK syndicate company. They are resident in UK, they buy the ticket on your behalf they pay out the winnings into you account. I'm in the British Army and move countires every 2 years, and after my sunny tour on the Island I'm now in Germany. I play in two seperate syndicates one for Euromillions and one for the UK Lotto through the UK site http://www.WinningLotteryTips.co.uk Simple's!

We spend 3 months twice a year in N.Cyprus so we have set up a direct debit in the UK which means our tickets are automatically purchased there. It certainly works with small, £10 wins; we have been notified on a couple of occasions that the winnings have been paid into our account.

If one of the big prizes comes up, you will be checked out to see if you are resident in the UK. They will not pay out if you are not resident no matter what VPN you use. Any large prize and you will be checked out. Having a UK address and bank account does not constitute residency.

New rules, explained here. Please note that from 13th December 2010 we will be making some changes to our Terms and Conditions and Rules. Summary of upcoming changes: As well as being a UK or Isle of Man resident, to play National Lottery games online or by text you must be physically located in the UK or Isle of Man when buying a ticket. If you play by Direct Debit, you must be physically located in the UK or Isle of Man when setting up your Direct Debit Account and also when making amendments to it, including buying additional tickets, or changing your numbers or payment details. As long as you only make these changes while you are physically located in the UK or Isle of Man, your tickets will be valid if you travel overseas. If you do not meet these requirements, any ticket purchases you make will be invalid and no prizes paid, and we will have the right to reclaim any prizes already paid under these circumstances.

I see from an advert on facebook there is a website called Lottery -Millions.co.uk and they place your ticket for you via there staff. Cost of 1 line is £1.95 plus they keep 5% of your winnings. There do the same for the Euro Lottery . I know it sounds naive to ask as you have to give them your bank details to pay for your ticket............... Just wondered if it was a genuine site for those of us that don`t have a UK address.

I have found a way to play the UK and Euromillions lotteries whilst overseas. I use a company called Lottery-Millions. They are based in the UK and act as a broker or middle man. It's easy to open an account with them and it costs nothing. You choose your numbers on their site as you would if you were buying online from the official Lottery site. They then buy your UK or Euromillions Lottery tickets on your behalf within the UK. They do charge a fee for this of .95p per ticket but this is the only way you can play the lotteries whilst abroad. I have had several small wins and my account has always been credited immediately with my winnings. If you like playing the lottery as I do they are definitely worth checking out at http://www.lottery-millions.co.uk .

I've had this conversation in an expat bar in every country I have lived since the mid 90's. And it isn't complicated. A group of expats meet in a bar every Friday night to pay their 'subs' or lottery, just like syndicates do week in week out in the UK. (for this example we'll say 20 players) One of the 20 is responsible for collecting the money. In the UK one of the members or syndicate who must be resident, buys 20 numbers online at the national lottery site. He or she trusts that they are paid for 20 tickets/are paid up front or as per the syndicate agreement (mentioned below) are paid within say 7 days. Every member is given the login details/password of the account and can check the numbers (if lucky dips etc) or to make sure the tickets have been purchased. In the event of a win the person in the UK who purchased the tickets online is paid by camelot not the syndicate. This applies to every syndicate in the UK. Camelot are not interested if the other 19 are in the TRNC. con

tinued The syndicate leader who collects the winnings are bound by your 'syndicate agreement' which states; in the event of a win the syndicate asks for no publicity, no syndicate members names to be released. (you also check the 'no publicity when buying). I was there when 16 each won £49K, only 2 lived in the UK, no problems. You do not need to download any fancy agreements, just on a piece of paper the following: Date of agreement, names of members, how the numbers are selected, how the syndicate leader is paid, how much each person will recieve (i.e 1/20th), no publicity in the event of a win, syndicate managers' name. It's also a great excuse for nipping to the bar and becomes a good social hour. And if you do not have a syndicate agreement and win your winnings you will be liable for inheritance tax

oh forgot, lottery-millions is exactly the same thing as above, but a rip-off, if you notice on their site it will say ''purchased by our own uk personel'' (a syndicate member with you) I'm more than happy to do it for less than 95p per ticket!

The service provided by Lottery-Millions is nothing like having a syndiacte with the manager in the UK. If you buy tickets through Lottery-Millions and win you do not have to share the spoils with 10 or 20 other people in a syndicate. Plus trying to organise a syndicate can be a nightmare with people not always paying their fees etc. Lottery-Millions provide a good personal service that a syndicate cannot offer. It's just like buying tickets from within the UK. Agreed their is a cost involved but what business is going to work for nothing!
