Immision test is anual! You need your log book, MoT cert, insurance a knowing smile, a lot of patience and enough Lira to pay the tax. Also be prepared to have to pay extra if you have been unknowingly "Nicked" by the police because they check that at the same time. There is also another form to fill in but a pal of mine gave me one of those and I am not sure where he got it from.

As a guide - my Freeland is 1420Kg and the tax was 878TL but take off 38TL because that was a fine for paying my tax a month and a half late - bad boy! That is on a petrol engine vehicle by the way, yours should be less?

Waddo,

Are you sure that the emission test is an annual test? I received conflicting answers so visited the Girne police station who told me it is 3 yearly as the mot, or have I been given the wrong info there??

I am getting so many different replies from different people that I'm not sure now, I was told every 2 years for the emission and 3 years for the MOT. Christ its not the UK when you know exactly what and when you have to pay things. I did pop in to the Police in Girne last week but received different views from when I went in last year, so at the moment not sure if I am on my head or my a***

Wish my son was here as he would know.

come on guys any one done either of them lately

MoT, that one is easy, every year a list of registration letters is published - two lists actually but one is for hire cars so you can ignore that. Look at the list for your registration letters and if they have been published they will be beside a date, i.e. 4/8/2009 - 14/8/2009. You must obtain your new MoT at a time between those two dates!

If your letters have not been published then you don't need an MoT for that year. Normally, it takes around three years for your registration letters to come around again but with more cars on the road I would not be surprised if the system changes quite soon - or in true TRNC style, it will just go on and on and your MoT could last a lifetime!

Emissions is every year but you will get conflicting information from just about everyone you meet. The big thing here is that emissions testing costs 20TL and that is cheaper than the fine and/or hassle you get when hitting a police check point (two months ago) and being told your - more.....

more.... emissions is out of date and that you have 14 days to get it done and take it and all other documentation to the central police station. Took me nearly all day to get that sorted under threats of fines and all sorts of things so for me, I will just test it every year and take the hit of the 20TL till they sort it out - worth it in the long run, I would have swapped 4 tins of beer for the days work!!

Took our car for MOT last week. Rules on emissions tests have changed. We had to go & get it done again before they would give us the MOT, despite it only being done in February. Were told that it will now last 3 years until MOT needs doing again. Unless they change the rules again in the meantime!!

Hi

Why dont you go to the Tax Office (pick a time when they are not busy) & enquire at the Road Tax Dept, they speak English & are very helpful they will tell you if your docs will be acceptable & how much you will have to pay.

Smithy,

Any car hire company will hold the printed list, they need it for when they want to tax their cars!

I use Erdener Garage for my emissions and he also has a list of the tax dates pinned up in the garage.

Will find out between 4-14th August if the emissions has now gone to three years as well...

Hi Waddo

Will go to Erdener Garage as thats near to me, so can look at their list.

Ozankoys I think that will be the best thing to do, I just did my Car Insurance (everything runs out at the same time) what an expensive time of the year.

thanks again

My Turkish Cypriot mechanic assures me that the 'emissions' test needs to be done every three years PRIOR to your MOT. I have just renewed my road tax and if the emissions test was yearly then I would not have received my road tax because it effectively would have been 3 months out of date..

AJ

I think I will take all the paperwork I have to the Tax Office and they can say either you need this or that, and if I have to re-new the Imission I then know to go and do it.

Why is everything so complicated and made not clear to all and sundry

Many thanks AJ

Hi All

Not quite clear of what went on this morning

I went to the Imission garage who I used last year, and they did the test no problem, but one guy who was a English/cyp told me you only did it once every 3 years, but still they did mine so a bit confusing

I then ventured to the Tax office for some Info, I asked them if they could check my paperwork and to ask if I needed any forms to fill in, she just looked at my tax disc and said come back next week as there are discounts available after the 1st August, thats great but that meant driving around from the 28th until the 1/2nd August with no tax, seems strange and still dont know if I needed to fill in anything,

All I wanted to know is roughly how much for 6/12 months so I know what to budget for, but will see next week.

Smithy, I look forward to hearing the outcome of your saga, the rules do seem to change depending who you talk to and that's not just on this forum, it is at the police station as well.

But just for safety, we too, got an emmissions test done after one year, as said in an earlier message, it isn't worth the hassel for 20tl.

smithy,

they probably told you to come back as the fine for paying late was less than if you payed now and didn't get the discount. tc logic !!

Hi Guys thanks for all the info, but surely someone at the Tax Office would know about the discounts etc

but as you say I had the Imission test done whats 20ytl, but its the tax I,m worried about who knows what it will be, so if I get pulled up with no tax who do I blame.

Will let you know the update and what the discount is on Mon/Tuesday god thats 6 days with no tax on the road.
