At night (or at least, mostly at night) my feet are wierd...they don't get hot or itch or feel prickly but become very irritable! The only thing i can do is bathe them in really cold water for a few minutes, then jump back into bed and pray i fall asleep before it starts again. Does anyone else get this? Is it normal? Is there a cure? Help!!! it's driving me nuts!!

I also get this Sam but mine is usually when I`m tired. Agree its the most weird feeling. Usually though once I got to bed it goes. I call it irratable legs though because it affects the whole leg. Dont worry too much because I think it`s quite common. Mrs.W

Whistler , i think what you are referring to is " Restless leg Syndrome " has something to do with the chemical imbalance of Dopamine in the brain .

Hi guys

I get this really badly and take quinine bisulphate tablets.

You will also find quinine in tonic water,

I also find that a large dose of vodka, tons of ice and lemon helps too!!

(actually alcohol and too many cigarettes make it worse)

Daisy

It's called Restless Leg Syndrome, a well researched condition.

I have been prescribed tablets from my doctor and I will post what they are later, as I'm at work at the moment. But I believe they are the same as what is prescribed to people with Parkinsons.

There are a lot of web sites relating to the condition.

Methocarbamol tablets

Hope they can be purchased over there as I find them most useful.

Daisy Dukes , you really need to your symtoms diagnosed , Methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant , it does have a few side affects , does interact with a few drugs , and there a few medical conditions that it should not be prescribed for .

Daisy

I only take them "As required", Simba's right though, always best to get medicines prescribed by a doctor.

Well, Sam, the obvious reason for twitching of the leg is because it's not going over! Elevate your ankles with cushions above your heart when lying down.

A friend of mine suffered badly from this, then she cut out white wine and it stopped completely.

DD just a thought this could be related to your recent surgery?

Also it is a good idea to increase your salt intake in the summer, I don't take a lot of salt either but get terrible cramps since I moved here and have found taking more salt helps.

Also as others have said drink tonic or bitter lemon drinks as they contain quinine. And as Simba said don't start taking any drugs without a proper diagnosis, although I don't think you are that daft.

At night feet on a pillow and keep a frozen bottle of water beside the bed and if it happens again rub it over your feet. Instant relief.

nurseawful....what sound advice!! The frozen water sounds wondeful, as im sure other sufferers will think so too!! I shall go to the chemist and ask for salt supplements.

Britvic...i am also quite shocked at how many people suffer with this...i truly thought i was a one off!! We are not alone!!

DD

If it is Restless Leg Syndrome the iced water may only give temporary relief, but it can sometimes help.

DD, have got no evidence on the red wine theory, why not go alcohol free for a week and see how you get on.

There is a down side to the quinine advice, that is all the sugar and artificial sweeteners in fizzy drinks (and squash drinks/iced tea etc etc). Stay away from anything with Aspartame E951/Acesulfame K/Phenylanaline, (all branded as Nutrasweet or Equal) there are serious known side effects, including cancer, brain lesions, depression, insomnia, hyperactivity in children, and worst of all weight gain!! ; ) Seriously though, they are just toxic chemicals in water.

P.S. If you see Sucralose/Splenda, it contains chlorine!!! Nice.
