It was on BBC news today that this new system is in operation and could cause chaos for the summer hols and one of those caught was a guy travelling from Northern Cyprus and was wanted for a missed court appearance. Here is part of news

"While we were there, the JBOC generated its first serious alert of the day for Heathrow's police.

We accompanied officers as they went to arrest the suspect at the door of the plane. He was a man whom the PNC suggested had failed to appear in court for an alleged assault.

Usually he would have been graded amber, but there was intelligence he may have used violence against the police in the past, so he was graded red.

Four officers were dispatched to meet his flight from northern Cyprus. With pistols on their hips, they waited on the automatic pier as it went out to meet the aircraft and prepared to board the plane.

But the cabin staff urged them not to and delivered the wanted man into the officers' hands while they waited at the door

....and the rest of the story was

He was swiftly led up the ramp, taken aside, and arrested. He could not quite believe they had taken such action just because he missed a court appearance.

Pinch points

He was on his way back from his wedding, accompanied by his wife and some of the guests, and he was due to fly out that night for his honeymoon.

Instead he was going to spend the night in the cells and appear before magistrates the next morning.

The arresting officer was only mildly sympathetic. He said: "It's a rocky start, but not the end of the world is it?"

Well at least we now know that KTHY are co operating with the UK Immigration Authorities. Maybe as more rogues leave the TRNC they too will be picked up for questioning. Maybe, one day, the TRNC authorities may embrace a similar system and stop undesirables from entering in the first place!

Thats what you get if you dont turn up at court!

It is simple to sort out if you have a genuine reason but if you take the mickey the police or bailiffs dont wait until it is a convenient time for you to arrest you. As an ex magistrate I have seen that the amount of time wasted by the courts, police and bailiffs is ludicrous and I have no sympathy for anyone who thinks they dont need to bother .

See also recent figures of serious crimes carried out by people on bail who have failed to answeer to their bail at court. Any way to catch them could have saved a life.

TC

The news bulletin went on to say that the authorities here in UK knew this guy was on his way as airlines send the names on the passenger list when they depart the airport of origin.

Its not a case of co-operating, they have to do it.
