Hi Folks,

My daughter was using our PC today,

After a while, the tower unit started to bleep intermittently,

soon after the bleeping increased,

she then switched it off.

When I came home she told me about the bleeping.

Took side panel off Tower Unit,

after switching off the power!

Had a look inside,

all of the vents to the power unit in the Tower Unit,

and most of the inside had a build up of dust.

Got the vacuum out and carefully cleaned the inside of the PC Tower Unit,

back, front panel, usb slots etc.

Reassembled Tower Unit,

Switched it on.

Bleeping has stopped.

Job done.

Hope this helps others who may have the same problem

That's all computers are good for these days

Bring back the Tawse (available on many a website allegedly!)

Navek it reminds me of the time one of the offices I worked in had a problem with a particular computer I bought for the company kept crashing.

I discovered that the user in question felt the cold badly and had an oil radiator right by her legs and the computer tower. I only discovered this after twice checking all the fans and vents were clear as when I was due to look at the machine the radiator was moved out of the way!

Navek,

I guess that the beeping was an overheating alarm, so you both did right. Firstly by switching off before any permanent damage done (it doesn't take long!) and secondly by removing all the dust thereby restoring the proper airflow and cooling. Well done you.

that beep might be because of overheating at the cpu.

try to keep the fan clear, easy ventilation.

you may leave the towers side open as well

North Cyprus Industry Standard Procedure:

Remove from power supply.

Remove casing.

Place outside.

Use Karcher High Pressure Washer thoroughly.

Allow to dry & use hair dryer to ensure no moisture left.

Reconnect.

Not recommended without adult supervision!

Hi ROBnJO,

Have used wire brush on motherboard, and DVD's to remove excess dirt,

but prefer grinder, borrowed from builder

Then pin hammer or sledge hammer to ensure all connections are sound.

Have had problems in the past using pressure washer,

now using dishwasher, then tumble dryer to finish off.

Hi britvic,

"Long Posts"

The reason the posts are so long is,

I normally type everything as email, in Hotmail, then spell check,

as once you've posted, errors can't be changed :-(

copy and paste.

obviously when I paste this is the way it transfers :-(

Will try to shorten in future,
