I got my MOT done a couple of weeks ago and it cost me 100tl. You have to go to the tax office in Girne, pay the money and get your reciept. Then take that to the MOT centre which is round the back of the Girne Police station. If you drive past the police station (on your left) follow the road to the top, round the bend to the left, round another bend to left and if I remember right it was a turn on left. Look for signs saying Muayene (think that's right). Present the official with your reciept, log book and emmissions test, then wait whilst he inspects the car. Make sure you have mud flaps, two warning triangles and a first aid kit. Other than that he's only looking to check the serial number on the car.

Hope that helps

As an addendum to post 2 also make sure your car is clean! Mine failed because it was dirty.

Oh yes, forgot to say that - I made sure I had it cleaned inside and out before I went and I think that helped convince the official my ancient car was road worthy. Had also just had it serviced so the engine had been cleaned too - I've heard they don't like it if the engine's dirty!

Well I'm guessing with the state of the roads around here it's to stop stones flying up and hitting cars behind you. I don't really know but I have heard from several people that this is something they're keen on catching you out on.

The rule on emissions tests have changed recently. We had to get ours redone on the date of the MOT, even though it had been done in February. They said that it would now last 3 years till the next mot.

Need MOT this week, so current emissions test certificate from last Oct no use now,

seems a bit odd to me, why not change it after the 1st year's up?

Well, at least it's only 2 months difference for me

Had my car MOT'd yesterday ..

1 .. Car wash inside, outside & engine clean

2 .. Mud flaps fitted to rear only ..

3 .. Tax office .. Log book & old MOT .. Payment 100TL

4 .. Police garage .. Up the road at the side of the Mercedes showroom .. Follow the signs

5 .. Park & lift the bonnet

6 .. Checked engine no with log book

7 .. Examiner asked for emissions cert .. Told him it was due January 2010 .. Checked it ..OK

8 .. Walked round the car .. Gave me back documents

9 .. Took inside office to the right .. New MOT issued .. Valid for 3 years

No mention of 1st aid kit or warning triangles .. Boot never opened
