Hi. Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain temporary fully comprehensive insurance on a car hired in South and used for two weeks in North.

Regards

Not possible... we tried using our Greek friends to ring various companies... the ONLY ones that do insurance from South to North are currently based at the crossing points. Sorry its not more positive.

Dear CarrieRBag

re msg 2

I think Bedas would be looking a "TRNC" based company ?! - one buys insurance at the crossing pint in the area where the car is "foreign".

That said Avis say they cover cars in the "north" when hired in the "rump" RoC.. but I don't know the level of cover.

The cover has to be recognised in "TRNC".. I don't see how a RoC policy would be "recognised"..

Oh, for a settlement and an end to all this farce..

this is how you do it....

You contact your TRNC car insurer to extend your TRNC policy, this will cover accidental damamge to your vehicle, but not damage caused to third parties - you buy the "third party" cover at the border (Greek side), with the two policies, you get as near Comprehensive as the Cypriot system will allow....

Hope this helps.....

NN re msg 4

The Q is about hiring a car in the "rump" RoC and covering it in "TRNC" for two weeks.... Reading Bedas profile he would seem to be just visiting - no contact in the "north"..

You can get Comp insurance at Umbrella Insurance, in Famagusta Old Town, just up from Othellos Tower
