After 15 years absence returned to the beautiful North with a notion that it would be nice to buy a house there and spend a bit more time there. There have been a lot of changes, some good, some bad but after the rose tint wore off my sunglasses, I wasn't so sure. Yes, there are good bargains to be had, but at whose expense? Are the Catalkoy & Orams cases a taste of more to come?. There's also some pretty rubbish property being chucked up in the name of development & despite looking, I didn't think much of the new builds. There seems to have been an explosion in fish 'n' chip shops, betting shops and knocking shops-why? I was also hacked off to see attitudes to the environment have not moved on & people just dump & go even at Alagadi-a whole new generation of litter louts have grown up in 15 years. I also found notions of hospitality & customer service pretty dismal & stuff was way too over priced. As my grandad used to say "your can't eat the sunshine."

So to the point......you dont like the north, you criticise the north and if I read correct you would not buy in the north.

No point in posting anymore on a forum that is well......................about the north !

Have lived in France and it`s full of ex-pats getting their rocks off on bridge parties, coffee mornings, bring and buy sales, one upmanship etc. etc. and it had nowhere near the atmosphere this place has, warts and all.

Too late, I'm here!

And what about certain postings chatting about coming from different regions of the UK and full on discussions about soccer in GB? Anything to do with TRNC?

Sorry, but haven't heard about your club-we stay north of Paris-is it something you should share? For the information of Rolo (soft & sticky in the middle) I am not, nor have I ever been a Greek Cypriot-not that there is anything wrong with being one. I was seeking to canvas opinion following my recent trip to KKTC-we could just buy in France which is tempting & has a lot going for it but I have relatives in Cyprus (NO NOT THE SOUTH!). Maybe I just understand more than I should.

It amazes me,......chit chat banned ?

What is the point of a forum perhaps its only certain subjects that need censoring or more to the point only certain subjects that dont appeal to certain people should be banned.

Lets all talk about nail bars and Ulrikas tits that should be ok !!

No matter, it's the unofficial British Embassy Sports Club way out on the south side of Paris. My suggestion is buy yourself a small 'bolthole' here in TRNC under very good advise and guidance but stick to France.

Definately rent first, there are so many property problems here, get a feel for the place for 6 months and if you don't like it don't stay!

Remember life's a journey not a destination! Cost of living here is fairly cheap so why not give it a try and see?! You will only know how you feel about it once you have spent more time here, maybe you will end up moving to another part of the island, Lapta way has a big British community so if that's what you are looking for move there, it can be very peaceful & quiet in other areas but you get to meet more Turkish/Turkish Cypriot people...As you say Alagadi beach is very dirty, which really is a shame..I think that there are more Fish and chips because of so many British people living here but as for casinos and betting shops they obviously love gambling here and it's banned in Turkey so a lot of mainlanders come over for a flutter...if you want to buy better quality property and even more reasonable prices, look into investing in Turkey.

Unfortunately you are very likely to not be alone in being put off buying property in NC. I'm sorry for the vitriol sounded off at you on this forum for daring to say what you experienced. You are not the first nor the last to experience that. The truth often hurts as they say. At least you have visited NC and found out for yourself.

It's a real shame that the powers that be have ignored the often justified criticism and now wonder (I hope) why the NC economy has nosedived.

Yeah, Hector, I was trying to canvass opinion by sharing my thoughts on returning to the island after 15 years-but silly me that anyone should want to hear a balanced view! Maybe too much beer going to too many heads.
