I did my national service 26 years ago,for 2 years.

Personnaly,I wouldnt say that it was an easy task.TRNC independency was declered within 2 weeks of joining and we wre on constant "alarm"(dont know why)

5 km. fully loaded runs every day in 30 mins. or less(very hard but kept us fit)

Spot duties every 6 hours for 6 hours fully loaded

5 months between every 48 hour leave(not enough soldiers apparently)

15 days in prison for falling sleep for 10/15 mins on duty due to tiredness

Smuck in the face for any silly reason(ie.dusty boots,crissed uniform,missing a bit whilst shaving,getting up wrong side of bed,not getting any night before from the wife.....)





But above all that

There is nowhere else better to learn the meaning of "self respect" "true friendship""team work" "brotherhood"

Under same sircumstances with my "BROTHERS" with no hasitation I'd do it again



As for "what sort of person it had made me"
