michelle,

To bring your dog to live in TRNC, you will need a DEFRA Export Licence, so contact them now to find out the current requirements, and time-scale involved

You will also need a TRNC Veterinary department Import Licence, in advance of your journey + their own requirements (rabies jabs etc) and timescales

The Airline that you travel with will specify certain certificates, size of container & notice needed

There are plenty of good Vets here, that will be capable of maintaining vaccination programmes

Unfortunately it is not practicable to take your pet to-and-fro, every visit to UK would involve a 6 month quarantine period, and each visit to TRNC would entail up to 6 weeks (often less) quarantine

I would say that the logistical exercise of bringing two cats to TRNC involved more effort, and almost as much cost as bringing two of us and a 40 foot container full of furniture!

if you have a rabies blood test done on your dog in the UK and bring the report to trnc with you.your dog will not stay in quarantine here more than 1 night or the day.

They started a new rule here in july1st if you have this blood test results from vets lab.

I have seen plenty of vets here but as I don't have a pet didn't really take any notice of the addresses, am sure some other forum members can fill you in.

Two good vets (who also do a lot of work for KAR at cost price) are Ferdez behind the Pia Bella Hotel in Girne/ Kyrenia PH 0533 866 3806 and Sibel at Ozenkoy across the road from Amandas auctions 0533 8687670.

I have used both and met a lot of people who speak highly of both.

Hi there, I can highly recommend Sibel but she has moved premises to the bngalows behind Smart + furniture shop in Karakum. She was so lovely with our little dog even though we couldn't save her and so caring. We brought our 2 through quarantine and they managed really well even though neither had even been in kennels before. We now have a rescue pup along with our original dog and they get all their treatment with Sibel including all their booster shots. She really has a way with animals and I'm sure your little lady really well, expect her to get lots of kisses and cuddles

Your husky will find it far too hot here at this time of the year. Make sure you keep it in an airconditioned room.

why do you want to bring a husky dog to cyprus? it is far to hot here in the summer and not good for it. there are lots of strays to adopt here that need homes, you are not being kind to your dog leave it in uk and get a new one here.

stavros cyprus.

Take your point about being too hot, but that would only be for about 3 months. The UK summer temps went into 30's this summer. The dog could be shaved, plus do what most of us do in the summer ,hide during the day.

For most dog lovers ,leaving your dog in the UK and getting a "new" one ,could never be an option.

Only thing with the amount of strays around ,the Husky would have to be kept on a leash when out. These as with most northern working breeds are very intolerant of strange dogs and prone to want to fight,

maybe i dont understand this dog thing but i still think someone who is a dog lover have the best interest of the dogs at heart and to bring a cold weather dog to cyprus is cruel to it. would it not be nicer to rehome a stray and give it a good life?

i think dog lovers can loose site and thinking they are doing good for the dog but they are really doing what is good for them selves.

You say she sits under the trampoline with her water bowl - and the hose - oftentimes the water is cut off.......you would need to keep an old bath or something else she can sit in......I would shave her, though as someone else said, as a dog lover myself, I am not sure I would take her - the heat can be horrendous mid-summer - is the Pit going too? If not, can she not stay with the Pit's humans? Are you relocating to TRNC for good then?

Would highly recommend Pertev Karaligil,- a superb vet and a very caring man. Turn right just after HSBC, and he's on the right, after the private hospital.

I've seen a very beautiful husky in North Cyprus only a few days ago.

Not that I'm an expert, but the dog did not appear to be unhappy whilst out.

His fur was quite short, and I believe your dog will be happy.

Anyway, what do we do if it gets too hot? Go inside and put on the air-con. (Some of us even do it for our pets).

Eren, upload a photo please.

Regards

PC

PS. Stavros, there are many unmarried Cypriot girls here that are "available and on-the-shelf". Do you suggest we leave our wives/girlfriends/partners in the UK as they may find it too hot?

no the pitball is my neighbours dog, lovely dog BUT not properly looked after i.e wormed and never has flea treatment,i would take her to the poodle parlour and get her cut,i would only take her out in the early morning and evening when it is cooler, and wherever we decide to live i will make sure there will be a cool spot.

Now i could be wrong on this, but i am under the impression that a husky's fur is hollow, which means it is capable of coping with extreme weather conditions, hot or cold....

regarding to 1 Day Quarantine:

This is correct info cause our cat was the last animal in the quarantine stayed for 1 month although he had the blood tests done.

This new rule says if you have your animal tested for rabies (the vaccination should be not more than 3 months old I guess, pls recheck!!) your animal should stay in quarantine only for a day or so.

Unfortunately our cat Diego has to stay there for 3 weeks as we came in TRNC right before this rule has set.

You can get more info on the subject from the Veterinary Department from Mr.Isfendiyar:

Lefkoşa Regional Centre

Tel: +90392 2253551

Regional Official Veterinarian: Mehmet İsfendiyar

Tel No: Work: +90392 2253551 / +90392 2253751

Hope this hepls!!

you need a rabies blood test for your animal.be it dog or cat and certificate

this must be a blood test from a vets lab

and you must bring this paper with you when bringing your pet here.i think must be no more than a week old the test, but i cant be 100% sure on the time allowed for rabies test certificate.

i dont know where you can find this information.but the main VET in the lefcosia quarantine compound give me this information.

Hope this helps a little.

or give them a call

Eren, if you love your dog dont hesitate to bring it with you. I have a long haired german shepherd who copes very well with the heat. We keep him in most of the time. If he is too hot when he is outside, he stands and barks to come in. He has aircon or a fan where he sleeps and always loads of water - no problem. As far as keeping up your rabies jabs that also is no problem. Ours are up to date at all times, just in case.
