Always keep empty bottles of tap water in old bottles in a cupboard in case of emergencies like this!

We should all refuse to pay the part of the water bill that charges for water and only pay for the rubbish collection, lights etc. OK there is a flat rate whether you use the water or not, but we`ve had no choice this month because the service just wasn`t there. We`ve been without for three weeks.

After going to the Belediye on Tuesday, a tanker of water finally arrived very late on Sunday evening. So we now have water, not very clean water, but water none the less! I'm wondering, despite the fact we now have a bit of water, should I go up again tomorrow to put our names down if it's going to take that long to get to us?!

No water for nearly 2 months!!! And they wont give us a tanker because our landlord's name is on the bill not ours - funny though they take our money for said bills!!!

On a previous post a few people advised new comers that power cuts were very rare these days and there was no need to get a generator, the lesson of course is never take anything for granted especially here,

Thanks Parky, I may be the newcomer you mentioned. I think we will see how it is when we get there and judge for ourselves.

Chicken,

Make sure you put circuit breakers on ALL voltage sensative equipment. Ie computers lcd/plasma tv's etc etc.

Because when the electric does come back on it can come with a bit of a thump.

I understand that these circuit breakers also need to go on appliances such as fridge-freezers, etc.

Am I correct or just paranoid?

I got one from Tektan for about 80TL.

I think its best to turn off most sensitive appliances at the power point as well or unplug them when a blackout occurs in case of a power surge.

Maybe I've been lucky but I have to say that in more than seven years, have never lost an appliance yet because of a power surge. Have surge protectors on the PCs & nothing else whatsoever. Never bother to turn anything of now unless just one phase goes down.

When we have a power cut back here in the UK,I just swich off the sesitive equipment and when the juice comes back on I wait 5 mins then switch on again. So far so good. You are all going to swich off your Air Con units its over loading the grid. That poor power station must just about be on its knees you inconsiderate people.thats the info you will probably get if you phoned up the power company to complain...

Always used to moan about the power cuts in TRNC but last week in the UK our power was off from 1pm Monday to 6am Thursday, due to vandals apparently. I will never moan about the power cuts in Cyprus again.

I put anti surge plugs on all our 'valuable' electrical appliances and also do as others suggest, unplug or switch off these when you know there is a cut. We have lost a fax machine, a computer and microwave in the past but now no more!!

I have been told that you can buy, in UK, something that you can put on your circuit board to control the fluctuating levels of electricity coming through into the house, does anyone know what this may be?

Yeah, gidday, Richard Brinsley, from a Nelsonian now living in Girne.

I'm wondering if you're the cove I sat next to at a Pumas match last winter - if so, that would make about three Kiwis I know in TRNC, apart from the paragliding guys.

There was a (Kiwi) guy, Heaton, who used to post on the Northern Cyprus BB forum - he always got heaps of 'hits', but seems to have gone quiet recently.

we, kibsolar,

are the only company in the TRNC which deals only and only with renewable energy systems and battery buffered automatic (and of course silent) back-up systems.

we offer PV modules, solar chargers, true sine wave inverter/chargers, batteries and equipment to unbeatable prices and of only best quality.

same applies for so called "solar thermals", meaning domestic hot water, central heating back up, pool heating or all in combination and space air heating as well.

THE monthly offer for august (order date): PV solar modules and a solar powered pool pump as a DIY set and easy to install.

kibsolar....the only real green company in the TRNC.
