i hear on good advice that this and other boards are being monitored. anyone offering taxi service, cleaning, looking after property, repairs, painting, anything at all without a work permit will be traced. this also includes car share which is income in trnc not like the uk.

i hear british complain all the time about foreigners over taking the uk working on the side, not paying tax and cheating benefits system.



so why do i get banned for saying this is wrong in cyprus? AJ says i do not promote the trnc but my post is in favour of trnc law, what can i say? maybe he thinks it is ok to break the law here or does he want me to say to everyone it is ok to cheat the system?

just back from cyprus on holiday 5 days in south 9 days in the north give me the north every time brits touting time share (legitametly of course)in paphos 7 euros for 2coffees in limassol. (at least Dick Turpin wore a mask) peace n quiet no hassle in the north sorry Stavros but the Turkish Cypriots are just a lot more friendlier (as your post has just proved)

working there as machinists, cutters, etc and being paid cash in hand.

Do you know how many still are. Do you have any idea how many fast food shops 'employ' young cypriots giving them a few quid to keep them going until they can work legally. Some do and some never intend to, but whatever it is Stavros why dont you just live and let live.

ok AJ the north of cyprus is a beautiful place and i do have a lot of friends there of many nationality, when i am there i stay at a friends house. i have eaten at some good restaurants and some bad ones, i like ezic premier the best and most of the turkish places, i do not like the brits restaurants the food is bad and unless you fit in with the click of brits you are not made to feel welcome. i like efes, my favourite place is the harbour

vidal you cannot on one hand say it is ok to break the law and then say you do nothing about it, i am not insulting you but you need to look at what you are saying it does not make sense. you either agree with the laws of whatever land you are in and support them or you go back to the country you came from

The irony here as far as I see it is that nobody has actually disagreed with your complaint about people not paying taxes Stavros, however you have managed to irritate/amuse or a combination of both for nearly 100 strings. I too dissagree with people who don't pay taxes in any country I have been and believe me with the exception of the Tax free countries I have worked they are everywhere. The ones who irritate me the most are those that flaunt it. You warned them, they will listen if they choose to though I doubt it. They took the chance in the first place and I would be very surprised if they stopped because you have advised them especially with the effort you put into defending yourself without giving away anything, essentially you don't inspire trust but thanks for the entertainment and as for believing that being told to shut up is insulting then you have really led a sheltered life in the north, south and UK.

First of all I congratulate you for your calm, not a common trait in the GCs that I have known. You must be an exception.



Now I will answer your question seriously. I am in favour of liberal policies i.e. the more we allow foreigners to "earn a living" here the richer our society becomes. They will create more jobs for the locals too and also transfer some know-how. At the moment it is illegal for them to work without a work permit but I am in favour of turning a blind eye for small jobs for a couple of hours a day. What I do not condone is illegal taxi service because of no insurance and also unfair competition.

no offense to tc taxi drivers but they are mad as well driving i mean and wouldnt feel safe letting my family ride at high speed on the wrong side of the road all the time.



this is not exclusive to taxi drivers in cyprus the world over they are the same.

It is not just that they dont pay taxes they get free health care and housing under false pretences,I do not see any ex-pat getting that in the TRNC..I think your country folk are getting the better deal mate so why not leave well alone..

Hippo..I can vouch for the fact that Lilli is above board.When I was over in June I called in at Guidos to seeLilli ,but alas she was not there.A nice young english lad was looking after the place and did us some coffee.Whilst we there a vehicle pulled up and 2 rather unsavoury characters in sunglasses got out of the car and came to the the young guy who was talking to us and took him inside and were talking to him.After about 5 mins. they left and went next door,were in there 5mins. and left.I asked the young guy were they the local Mafia and he said "might as well be they were local government officials checking up on illegal workers but could not find anything wrong". Unfortuneately I never met Lilli whilst I was there to tell har so I hope she reads this post...

Having lived and worked here for 28 years....and contributed to the social insurance AND paid my taxes throughout...I have my pension from the TRNC AND FREE healthcare...I am 55 and its gr8! There are just a few of us here that have done this...and get the benefits....so if you pay you receive! The benefits far exceed the contributions made, and thank the TRNC for caring for its citizens.

You have to pay into the social insurance scheme for 15 years at least and then you get your benefits at 55...not bad eh!

So ALL you 'illegals'...and there are far far too many...I have NO sympathy for anyone caught and deported...or that they are never ever able to rectify there situation...you are here as 'guests', although half think they 'own' the place! If you obey the rules...and pay your way...fine..if not, then dont expect anything except a knock on the door!
