mmmmm Not sure that they have made up. Clearly some diplomatic manoevering by ROC to assert its legal position. Will Turkey relinguish its assistance to the TRNC? I do not think so. The ROC will certainly continue with its jesticulations and will be supported by the legal ticket. However, the TRNC continues to survive alongside Turkey..a country that has increasing influence and power in the Eastern Mediteranean. The TRNC is clearly able to survive beyond the ROC attempts at subversion, embargo and seige. The history of the Island will continue to evolve and the problem..what problem will diminish and dissapear with time. It is very clear that the Turkish presence on the Island is firmly seated and very unlikely to be directly challenged. I feel that ultimately the future for the TRNC is very secure and is unlikely to feature the ROC and perhaps not the EU.

Thank God the Swedish statement and the Greek and ROC diplomatic response in EU parliament has kept Brussels occupied, now perhaps they can find time to talk about the EU economy . Throughout the pubs in Europe the punters can at last stop talking every night about who is or was responsible for the cyprus problem and concentrate on the next election ,next footie game, Afghanistan,Iran,EU unemployment.

Congratulations to Mr Carl Bildt for raising a long overdue point of discussion. Has it taken all these years to realise the potential progress of the Island requires dialogue. In 1974 over 7400 personnel of many mixed origin were evacuated from Cyprus to such RAF Bases as Brize Norton. Such times called for immediate action and management. Without time to ponder, many lives were saved. The battle raged and far too many innocents were being killed. Turkish, Greek , British Citizens and other nationalities who remember such times will verify. Cyprus remains a very special island, for many of us and for many reasons. Like Mr Bildt who attempted to show compassion and empathy, the RAF should be asked the same question of why did they bother ?.
