We are travelling to Northern Cyprus for the first time in September. We are wondering would it be better to get our turkish lira when we arrive or to get it here before we leave.

It's nearly always better to bring out pounds and change locally, thats what I always do.

should get at least 10% more here, If you're in Girne (Kyrenia) best place is opposite Dome.

Buy here and also if you use a cash machine whilst here then draw Sterling and change here as your bank in UK will,if you draw Lira, charge at their rate which is always lower.

Enjoy your holiday.

The Great British Pound is widely accepted in Northern Cyprus so no need to arrive with YTL. As said before best to exchange in one of the cities and not at the airports.

Lynda,I'm originally from Wales.Last town Aberystwyth.Holiday home here for 8 years,now living here for nearly a year.Loving it !!!!

Five Finger Mountain range above you, reminds me a bit of Snowdonia, apart from no clouds or rain.

2 Turkish expressions you need to learn.."yavas,yavas"...slowly,slowly.and "yarin"...tomorrow.

Enjoy your holiday.

i know Aberystwyth very well. We live about 30 miles inland from Aber. Those two expressions mean everything to us - regarding holidays. - just what we like. Looking forward to a relaxing holiday but also would like to see some of the island. weather is terrible here at the moment. rain and more rain - so really need some sunshine.

Kind regards

Lynda

Do the exchange booths change travellers cheques, or do you need to go to a bank?

Do you get the same rate, and what commission do they charge?

It doesn't feel right to be carrying all my holiday money in cash,. No protection should it be lost or stolen.

cheers

Bore da Lynda, blue skies,36deg,If you want to see the island, get a hire car,and spend a night on the Karpaz.

Golden beaches,wild donkeys...like Borth!!!!Naaaaaaaah.

Eg you can go one way,see Famagusta,Salamis....Several nice hotels or wooden cabin on the beach.Basic but clean...wonderful swimming and scenery,Back along the North coast, nice coffee stops.

Would be pleased to meet and give you more advice.

My girlfriend will be here end Sept.finally, for ever. And she has already pencilled in a night or so on the Karpaz.

Anyway I can help.

Noswaith Dda - Mike - Sounds idyllic. I certainly hope it is not like Borth - well not at the moment anyway, although the weather seems to be picking up here at last. It has been so wet. I was up in Aber last night. Went to see the King & I in Aber Arts Centre - then sat on the front and had fish & Chips. Classy or what!!! What is the Karpaz. Never heard of it. We may hire a car. See how we feel when we get there. I suppose there are plenty of hire places around. Iechyd Da - Lynda

Sut mae Lynda.I think you will need a car, your resort is a mile or so from main road.It is the same side of the road as UK!!!! Yes look up Karpaz you will see what I mean, plus Salamis is on route.

I give you my email mike_lapta@hotmail.com.Love to meet and have a chat "Gymraeg",and give you a few ideas. Another sweltering day here.

nice to hear Arts Centre going well, and memories Fish and Chips on the front.
