Can anyone explain what a local Notary Public is? I have just recieved papers from solicitor for power of attorney & understand I can have these witnessed by a local Notary Public.

I know when you apply for a Uk passport you can have it witnessed by a local solicitor or doctor or even someone who is a director of a company. Is this the same thing.

Will await answers - Thanks

You have to sign the papers in the presence of a "Notary Public". In UK some solicitors office have "Notary Public" displayed at the entrance. In Cyprus we have "Certifying Officers" usually passing themselves wrongly as "NOTER"s. Same thing. Go to one of these people with your papers and idendity card or passport and sign them in their presence. Then they will stick a stamp on it, sign and seal it with their own rubber stamp. If this is done in UK, then you have to take it or post it to the TRNC Representative for "authentication" at a small charge. If it is done in TRNC, no need for further authentication.

There is one in a cupboasrd opposite the courts in Girne. Cost is peanuts.

If that's the old chap I'm thinking of, he's a right character!

If he's having a long siesta, there are a few more just round the corner. You just wander round till you find one at work!

Best to take a Turkish speaker with you though.
