i went back to the uk last october to my grannies funeral..and on my return my husband had put no smoking posters up in our bar ( 5 fingers). i thought he had gone mad..but he explained that our accountant had checked the law and advised us to go non smoking as the law came into effect on 17th oct...we trust our accountant so we followed his advise. unfortunately our smoking cliental voted with their feet and went to the other bars in the village that choose not to follow the law....it was refreshing to read the article on page 9 of cyprus today - which states the law did come into affect last october...it is just nice to be right sometimes..i suppose i am writing this cos we have got so much stick for sticking to our guns..all the knowledgable expats told us we were wrong etc...sad really that some people will put a fag before friendship! i have against smokers..sometimes i kill a puff..but the law is the law!

Quote message 1 ''unfortunately our smoking cliental voted with their feet and went to the other bars in the village.'' So they have not returned in the summer then, you must ask yourself why, do the other bars in the village offer more to their customers is that the reason they have not returned. WT

Still with the smoking theme but away from the bars etc. When we went home in June I went into the toilets at Ercan, there were three people smoking, one of them was standing next to a policeman. I would like to say I was shocked but I'd be lying if I did. Paul

Libby Ok, the Law is the Law - but Ambiance is everything in a restaurant/bar for customers. If they don't feel comfortable or happy in the surroundings - will they return or reccommend it? As a smoker, I respect the NO Smoking rules, both here and in the UK - I step outside when I need a ciggie.... but I only go where I know that the customer comes first and is treated as such - can that be said of 5 Fingers with the kids demanding the TV to show cartoons or whatever as opposed to the Sports Channel as advertised? It's not just the smokers who are using their feet. Sue
