Can anyone help - this year we have really bad algae. We know you can get some tablets that you put in the pool which are slow releasing - has anyone heard of these and if so where can I get them from?

Invest in an Aligator system and algae will become a thing of the past. No more slippery steps and chlorine levels which are less than drinking water.

We have had this problem and on advice from a friend we ' Shocked ' our pool. Put in 7 pint beer glasses of chlorine and within 48 hours it had cleared.

Were also told about Triple X. These are tablets whic are put in a floater. for three weeks now our pool has been great.

The tablet come in 5k drums,50 tablets which are put into the pool two or three per week. We put in two weekend and one mid week.In the winter you use one per week. We also use algicide once a week.

Three oof our friend use the tablets and all of us are very pleased with the result.

They can be obtained in the south and cost 36 Euro plus 5euro for the floater. have now been told that they have them in Nicosia but are still trying to find out where and what the cosdt is.

If you want anymore details you can contact me on 05338373336.

Hi nikicik,

7 pint beer glasses of chlorine? Algaecide once aweek? Sounds like a lot of chemicals going into your pool and that must be costing you as well as not being very good for you. Have you looked at the Aligator system and considered it? Apart from anything else your chlorine consumption will go down to 1-2 tablespoons of granular chlorine per week. Please don't think I am criticising your choice, just asking if you have considered alternatives.

How do these differ from the Floatron system? We bought 2 Floatrons as our pool is deep but never got really clear water.

Aligators cost 850 pounds supplied and fitted and will maintain a pool up to 150,000 litres (twice the size of an 8x4).

I appreciate that this buys a lot of chemicals, but the point is do you want lots of chemicals or do you want pool water you could drink, 'cos thats what you get with an Aligator?

Hi linda

Have you looked at the zerochlor website

http://www.zerochloreuropean.com

this month and next month is always a big problem here in cyprus with algea.

so many people are now trying zerochlor as a simple way of combating the algea problem, and also enjoying a non chlorine swimming pool.

but in saying that its not just a quick magic fix.

You must still monitor your water as you would with chlorine.

But 1 thing for sure, once you have used zerochlor im sure you wont go back to chlorine.

Cheers

TRNCVaughn. As said in my input, the use of the chlorine was to shock it which we did and then when it was clear used the tablets Having read my message again can not understand where it said we did this all the time. Now we use only the tablets plus a small algaecide. By my calculations over a two year period we will use about 3 drums ( 5k = 50 tablets ) at a cost of about 102 euro plus the algie. Not very expensive.

I am not trying to sell anything ( can you say the same ) but am hopefully helping LadyMcBeth by telling her about the tablets we have been using which was the question in the first place.

Hi Carndi,

In my msg 5 to nikicik (Carndi?) I did say I wasn't criticising his/her choice just asking if alternatives had been considered.

In my msg 8 I acknowledged that the cost of an Aligator could buy an awful lot of chemicals, but made it clear that the point was about getting away from chemicals.

Of course I am trying to sell Aligators whilst at the same time giving people an informed choice about pool water sanitation.

Zerochlor.

The pool size is 9x6. The other three persons who have started using the tablets are very pleased with them but as stated we are still doing trial and error but have been pleased with the results so far.

Hi Jaybee,

Your msg 7.

Floatrons and Aligators work on exactly the same principle similar to Zerochlor. Silver and copper oxide ions doing the job that chlorine does without the use of such a harsh chemical.

Zerochlor is a ready to add liquid.

Floatrons produce silver and copper ions using a solar cell (limited output)

Aligators produce silver and copper ions using mains power (adequate output)

If you know how a Floatron works take a look at http://www.aligator.co.uk and you will see the similarity.

i was just looking at your costs for your tablets.

306 euros for say 2 years you say, plus your algeaside and flock, dont know the prices?

for 2 years with the size of your pool, you would use around 8 x 1 litre bottles per annum x 2 years comes to around 352 pounds, not bad for a pool that would be non chlorine, also save your back wash water and reuse on your garden, ok i know alot of people save the chlorine back wash water and let it settle then re use it,but that water is still toxic.

anyway,i just thought id give you a alternative to chlorine and shock you as to how cheap zerochlor really is to use!

Cheers and happy swimming

Spangles.

Got the tablets from RELAZ POOLS and GARDENS. They are opposite the turning into HOME BASE.

Keep on past the turn of for Orphenadies ( Spelling ) continue down and straight over the roundabout and continue to the next roundabout and come back on your self. Relax is up on the left. Found them very helpful and the girl in there speaks very good English.

If the above is not very clear you can ring me on the number quoted in my first message ie no 4.

as I also said I am trying to find out where in North Nicosia they sell it as I have been told that it is cheaper.

Zerochlor. Thanks for that. As I said in my posting it was 102 euros over two years for the tablets plus algie and flock. even with another drum of tablets the cost would still be under 200 euro.

Am in the early stages of using this so am still open to other methods of pool cleaning if this does not do the job,but I have to say, that I am very pleased with the result I am getting at the moment.

i thought you was saying 5k =50 tablets,and i took that as 1 drum=102 euro

sounds very cheap to be able to look after ur pool with chlorine tablets for 2 years for 102 euros.

stick with it.

i await your results

If all goes the Cypriot way and more people start using this then the price will triple.
