We have just paid £275 for buildings and contents for our apartment. This includes earthquake cover. The insurance company is a subsidiary of Türk Ekonomi Bankası which is part of the major French banking group BNP ParisBas - which means that they are as sound as most.

Our agent is Brian Richardson, who runs Dynasty Estates in Girne (opposite the Altikaya). He can be contacted via his website http://www.dynastycyprus.com, on 0533 867 3286 in the TRNC or via (UK number) 020 7193 3544

I am happy to recommend him.

Heathfield,

How big's your apartment?

Our 183m² villa, with 10 x 5 pool, and 3/4 donum only costs £185 a year (£85,000 rebuild, £20,000 contents)

Hi Nunu I thought Carol worked in the Girne office, but not matter. The Company she works for is Gunes Insurance. Carol has been working for the Company for years and is well thought of in the ex-pat community.

In reply to TimothyCadman....it's 160 sqm, second floor. For similar cover to yours, we were quoted about £175 plus an additional £100 for the earthquake cover. Maybe we are paying too much....?!

We too have an apartment and our buildings insurance comes in with our monthly maintenance charges (dont know whether you pay any maintenance charges) so we only had to take out contents insurance which was very very reasonable - try steve dickinson insurance for a quote - I think he is already mentioned above.

Heathfield,

£100 Earthquake Cover. They're having a laugh, aren't they!

Insurance is meant to be risk against actuallity. So they reckon an earthquake of magnitude 7 is likely to strike any minute. We've not even had a 5 yet! And really as long as we keep having these 2's and 3's on a regular basis then the chances of THE BIG ONE are unlikely.

don't think you can insure an individual appartment - need to take out cover for the whole block....
