Yes Octopus is still going BUT...

I contacted Octopus on Friday because my pool was green for the second time in 3 weeks. The guy I spoke to told me he had bought the business from Billy - the first I had heard of it but it is confirmed by other sources.

I now understood why, for the first time in 4 years, there was a problem with my pool. I thought they just had some new employees when I got new cleaners turning up and I had been a bit surprised when they did the pool twice as fast as anybody previously.

Clearly the old Octopus standards have gone so I have discontinued my contract. If anyone else is interested I have hired Meten who did our pool as an Octopus employee for 3 years and was brilliant, easily the best I have come across. He has now set up on his own, he has spare capacity and his number is 0533 864 4450. My 2 neighbours who use Octopus have also had problems in the last couple of weeks and plan to use Meten (they also know him) as soon as their up-front payments expi

Hi John,

Sorry to hear you have had problems with your pool and sorry you have decided to leave us BUT....

Octopus Pools has not been sold to anyone. Onur, who has looked after your pool and who has worked for us for a number of years, has bought INTO the company and is now a stakeholder rather than an employee. He now has his own business to run and make a profit from rather than just earn a salary. We still carry out his admin and take his calls and he is responsible for maintaining his "own" pools.

Pool maintenance is a very management intensive business and allowing our pool cleaners to buy into the firm allows us to concentrate on our core business which is pool repairs and construction.

Two of the guys who used to work for Octopus before the changes have set up as Lifestyle solutions, they are doing my pool and they have been brilliant and both speak excellent english, which really helps. 05338868725

I have been using Octopus pools for a few years now, and if you have any problems Billy or Vaughan are quick to sort it out, Onur is doing our cleaning now and he is as good as you can get, if you have a problem with the timer on the lights being wrong because of power cuts he just sets them again, nothing is too much trouble.

So why would i want to change.

ONE MORE THING when there is a water shortage Billy always manages to get us a tanker for the pool, how many other companies do that,

sheila

Smithy - I am not saying you should change. I am saying that the new Octopus organisation has let me down badly so I have changed. Possibly the cleaners here in Karsiyaka are not the same boys as Girne - I don't know.

I do know that they never come at the same time or day in any given week, that they rush through the work , that my pool has gone green twice in 3 weeks when it has never been green before, that my neighbour's pool has not been cleaned once in the 4 weeks since he returned to England (although they have kept the chemicals up) and I do know that my other neighbours were left with a small mountain of chlorine in the bottom of their pool (every other cleaner scatters it around not just dump it in 1 lump) after the last visit and they couldn't use it for 24 hours despite trying everything to stir it up and dissolve it.

I have been wtih Octopus for 4 years and never had any reason to complain before.

Hi TRNCVaughan,

I purchased a villa in Esentepe a few months ago, and I'm fairly sure your company was doing the pool maintenance. It seems to have stopped, for someone sent me some pictures recently and the water level was low and it was green.

Can you email me off-board please to confirm?

Thanks. Ian.

Hi Ian,

I will find out on monday if your pool is still on our rota. I understand your solicitor stopped paying for the maintenance so it may have been discontinued.
