We are coming over to North Cyprus in July as 2 families i.e a party of 5 and a party of 4. We are staying in Alsancak. We are flying into Larnaca and for the 2 families we have been quoted £180-£200 total for taxi transfers and then we would have hired 2 cars in the North. This has got us thinking we should maybe hire 2 cars @ Larnaca and travel over the border. I think you can do this as long as you pay for an additional Insurance at the border? Has anybody done this before? Can they recommend a particular hire car company? We are going to need cars capable of taking 4-5 lots of luggage as well so a Nissan Micra probably wont do.

I use these all the time and they are very reliable.

When you go into their site and complete your details you get a list of different cars and relevant prices.

Please check on recent threads for more info.

I regularly fly to Larnaca. Our last visit we paid £50.00 taxi to get to Lapta, for 7 people.

We normally pay around £45.00 each way for upto 5 passengers. Do you want the email address of who we use.

The person that owns the Taxi Company is called Bessie, she lives in Lapta and is very reliable.

I forgot to say, we hire a peoples carrier in OCTOBER 07, and we were charged £20.00 per day.

The insurance for crossing the border is quite heavy.

Hi we have used pacific car rental on 4 separate occasions and a taxi for 6 arranged by them from larnaca to kyrenia central to pick up our car cost £45.00 each way. In June we have a taxi from Larnaca to Esentepe for 6 of us and again this is £45.00 so it would appear the cost hasnt gone up since last year. We have also used Abant rentacar in Kyrenia and a 7 seater with them in height of summer is around £30.00/£32.00 per day.

I have enquired previously about booking a car at Larncaca airport and taking it through to the North but they basically told me to get lost !!

Have a look at the current thread BORDER CROSSING AFTER MIDNIGHT - it's got quite a lot of info on cross-border car hire.
