Could anyone give me some information please. It says in the paper it has been taken over by someone else, but does not give a telephone number or any details or exactly where it is.

Stella,

if you go tomorrow, its free !!! Tables are provided, and if you want, you can then keep that pitch.

Apparently, the tables are large, but you need to take your own umbrellas etc.... You might need waterproof ones if its like today.

No need to book as theres plenty of room at the mo'.

I don't know the guys name who runs it.....but you'll recognise him from Chateau.

I might give it a go myself (depending on the weather.

Easy to find, as its just off the main road in Karakum, just look for the large, illuminated sigh for 'Star Bowling' and turn right.

Dawn, If it's outside I think I'll give it a miss until next week as the weather tomorrow is forecast for heavy rain. There was enough shall we or shan't we today, I'll see what it looks like in the morning. Stella

So when I'v e turned right at Star Bowling,(wherever that might be) will their be a sign for the market. Sorry for sounding thick, but I live in Lapta and don't go over the roundabout to the other side very often.

I've just looked at BBC weather forecast for tomorrow and it's good, so maybe the market will be worth a try.

The Karakum market today was brilliant, there was quite a number of stalls there and there was one particular stall that was selling all ladies and menswear for only 1 LIRE. I actually bought tons of stuff for myself and my family and believe me most of the stuff had lables on and was brand new. I have been informed that this particular stall is there every Sunday, there are some right bargains to be had. All the other stalls seemed to attract customers and I will definately be going again next Sunday come rain or shine.

Hi Dawn and Metin and anyone else interested in how it went today - yes it was very good. I was amazed at the amount of customers, and those that couldn't get out of bed or thought the weather would be bad should really make the effort and go next week. I think it will be really good. Star Bowling is a really good venue, with a waiter that comes round to take coffee orders (2 1\2 lira per cup) and also does toasted sandwiches, plus the bonus is extra clean toilets. (Those of us ladies that use the Chateau ones will understand this statement!!!!) So ring Peler to book a table, 0533 842 4308. Stella

Well, I was there at around 10AM or just after and there was about 6 maybe 7 tables, more like a car boot sale than a Sunday market! I'll not be returning lol.

Yorkie, it was not a fair day to judge the market, as the forecast had been heavy rain for Sunday and going Lefkosia way, there was a lot of rain, so this stopped a lot of people that had booked tables from coming. There were quite a lot of lookers later on, who were checking the place out and said would be having a table next week. Everything takes time to grow, and I think it should certainly be given a fair chance. Remember The Chateau was only very small to start with, and as this is over "the other side" will get a lot of different people coming. I believe there is a fruit and veg man coming next week and a lady who cooks Turkish food, but don't know about other foodies.

There were more stalls at the market this week including the fruit and veg man, and now a bar has been put up outside for people to get coffee and toasted sandwiches, and beer etc, so please support it to help it grow.
